Marvellous Makers – The Essex Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Robin is a big reader, with her favorite store being Waterstones and her favorite hobby being “reading comic books”, we are always looking for new ways to encourage and support her love of reading. For as long as she enjoyed reading, we have been signing her up for all sorts of reading related events in Essex. We’ve read to dogs, gone to plays that are based on books, and have taken her to the library at any chance we have gotten. The Summer and Winter reading challenge each year is a real highlight, as it does change so much and is so rewarding. This summer, the Essex Reading Challenge is called Marvellous Makers, and there is a fantastic display right at our local library in Harlow Town, which runs until September 7th.

The Creepy Cute Sticker Book – Fantastic Stickers

[Ad- gifted product] We are a big seasonal house, but we also very much love Halloween. It’s just a really fun holiday with absolutely perfect vibes. Our household is also one that is very crafty, with both Amelia and Robin spending a lot of time making crafts and enjoying our craft supplies. We have a massive drawer of stickers – ones we have purchased that we thought they’d like, ones we have picked up from events that match video games, and ones that Amelia or Robin have brought home from school. We’ve never actually had a physical book of stickers before! The Creepy Cute Sticker Book is our first, but not our last.

The Veggie Cookbook – Pickled Cucumber and Tofu Glass Noodle Salad Recipe

[Ad- gifted product] We are huge fans of Higgidy and have tried out a bunch of their foods previously, so when they sent us The Veggie Cookbook, we were pretty excited to see what foods they had instore for us. These meals are all vegetarian, but some play more as side dishes and others could easily have your swapping out tofu for chicken, for example. It’s a really flexible book that has a bunch of staples, bigger vegetable meals, and more.

Robin is 7, turning 8 this year, and this book is designed for children age 7 to 12 years old. Maya & Robobo has a few touches towards real life situations that many children actually have experienced, especially around those ages.

Joe and Dusty Save The World – Book About a Boy And His Dog

[Ad- gifted product] Robin is a big reader in our household, as it’s one of her main hobbies. She even recently got to read to an anxiety dog at our local library, which really ties in well with Joe and Dusty Save the World – a children’s book all about a young boy with his own anxiety dog to guide him through life. As Robin is at an age where she can read on her own, I gave her the book and let her tell me about it whenever she was done with her daily reading.
