6 Blending Tricks For Smooth Cream Eyeshadow Application

Many makeup lovers have fallen in love with cream eyeshadow because of how simple it is to use and how it gives a very modern and soft look. If you struggle with making your cream eyeshadow look even, the problem usually is just your application.

With practice, your blending technique will improve and your eyeshadow will look a lot better. With these tips, you can use cream eyeshadow to create a soft, even look.

1. Start With a Smooth Eye Base

What you want to do first is create a smooth base for the eyelids. For example, without an eyelid primer, the shadows can fall into the eyelid lines, be uneven, or just straight up fall off the eyelid.

You can use either a lightweight eye primer or a small amount of concealer to create the smooth base. After blending, set the base to allow for smoother blending of the eyeshadow. Consider the eye base to be the surface of a canvas that allows the cream products to blend.

2. Choose a Blendable Formula

Not cream solutions for eyeshadow work the same. Some will dry instantly, and others will stay wet enough for you to be able to smooth out the shadow.

If you go for a creamy eyeshadow stick, blending will be easier because the shadow is designed to stay soft for a while. These sticks let you colour your eyelids and blend before the shadow dries. A finish on the shadow that co-operates with your blending helps to prevent rough edges.

3. Work in Small Sections

Cream eye shadow is almost impossible to unblend. That is especially true when in an environment that is warm or has bright warm lights, because cream products dry quickly with warmth.

Instead, the shadow should be applied on a section-by-section basis. That is easier for colour control and softer edges for a gradient look. It also works in avoiding the problem of one spot having a splotch of colour.

4. Use the Right Blending Tool

Not all tools give the same blending effect. Some people find certain tools better than others, and some prefer brushes, while others prefer fingers for cream products.

Fingers can give a very seamless finish, while brushes can diffuse the colour at the edges of the shadow. It’s a good idea to try both in order to see which one works best, but usually a mix of both fingers and brushes creates the best look.

5. Blend Before the Product Sets

With cream eyeshadow, timing is especially important. If the product fully sets before you have a chance to blend, it will result in uneven patches and extreme lines.

Once you have placed the product, you have to blend straight away using very light tapping in either circular or straight motions. Quick blending will result in the product spreading evenly, which is important, and it will also keep one area from holding too much product.

6. Build Colour Gradually

Using cream eyeshadow tends to come with the habit of putting on the product all at once. This creates a thick eyelid and makes blending more difficult.

One layer of eyeshadow at a time is the key. Remember that you will be adding more colour, so a little goes a long way. This will help the eyeshadow stay soft and light, and it will also give you depth and a blended look.

Your Shortcut to Effortless Eye Blending

Using cream eyeshadow doesn’t have to be tricky, but there are things to keep in mind. With some focus on prep, blendable formulas, and thoughtful layering, the pool eyeshadow technique is so much easier.

If you use these blending tips, you will create eyeshadow looks that are soft and polished without too much time in the mirror.
