[Ad – Gifted Products] Every other Monday we play a board game at Geek Retreat and this time the board game was Articulate! For Kids, which aims to be a fast talking card game where you need to roll dice, describe words, and guess what words are being described to you. The timer is short, the cards are long, and there is a die that you need to roll so that you can figure out exactly what word on your card you are meant to be describing.
The whole box, along with the cards, do feel very classic, with simple designs and no real pictures or characters. With that in mind, Robin was excited to understand how exactly this small game played. Inside the box there is a die with a bunch of colors on it, a red timer, pencil and a stack of cards. Everyone splits into teams, and then they start the game by rolling a die, flipping the timer over, and starting. The player who can see the card will then start describing the word next to the color that has been rolled. If they get this correct, the die gets rolled again, and then it continues. The team that guesses correctly does get points, which are written on another, smaller card.
We play a lot of family games, not to win, but to have fun. So, for Articulate! For Kids, we did not really keep track of scores and instead did a big focus on guessing and having fun together. Sometimes the timer ran out and we let the team keep going, other times we let “close enough” words count. It’s really down to how serious you and your family want to make this game. The actual words that needed to be described were things like Scarf, Gorilla, Summer, all of which are easy for children and adults alike to describe.
We found the game very easy to play, and when you aren’t keeping score, you can just keep going until you feel done. Articulate! For Kids feels like a classic for a reason; it’s a trivia style game where you can play with both young and old, ideal for a holiday party or just having a bit of fun together. We quite enjoyed this little box of cards and found it to be a good time filler.
This sounds like a fun family card game to play. We love to play a board game over Christmas so I might look at picking up Articulate for us.
