We love food, and as I have been cutting down on eating meat, I did went to try out some more vegan dishes. Dann suggested Bakers and Roasters, which was on our way to ARTIS Zoo, and it felt like the perfect fit. The whole place had a sort of hipster cafe vibe, with someone welcoming us and seating us as soon as we arrived. The place was half full of people chatting and eating. They did have a display case of freshly made pastries and a menu of coffees, but we came for food.
Navajo Eggs

Dann ordered the Navajo Eggs, which is a sort of breakfast bowl with BBQ pork, avocado, mango salsa, a chipotle cream, and a bunch of poached eggs and bread. Dann thought that this dish was very nice – the mango salsa was very enjoyable and refreshing. The pulled pork was well seasoned and succulent. The poached eggs were absolutely perfectly cooked – the only real thing was figuring out how to eat it! He ended up loading up the bits of toast and enjoying it as a sort of DIY bread. The portion size was so good too!
Herby Cannellini Beans and Sticky Tempeh on Za’atar Toast
My breakfast had a much longer name with the word “new” printed on the menu near it! It was the herby cannellini beans and sticky tempeh on Za’atar toast. This was a huge wedge of toast, coated in a bunch of very delicious, well seasoned cannellini beans. There were cubes of sticky tempeh, that had a great texture, on top. Over the whole thing, a drizzle of tahini sauce and chili oil really added a bunch of flavor. It was very, very delicious. On the side was a fresh salad, very well dressed while not being soggy. This was a very delicious take on beans on toast.

Dann and I also got a soda drink, that was refreshing and tasted a lot like cherry, though they had a lot of coffees and smoothies, along with fresh juices to choose from. The staff were very patient and able to explain the entire menu, along with making recommendations. I liked that there were a lot of vegan and meat options, and everything was clearly prepared very well, with lots of flavor and care.

Breakfast is one meal I never eat out, your meals look great and the perfect start to the day. I might have to look at treating us to a late breakfast out
Those breakfasts look awesome. I love the look of both, I’d be very tempted by the dish with the mango salsa and the poached eggs and pulled pork!
Sounds like a nice new cafe to try. I’d love to eat less meat but I do really enjoy it, so I’d probably have gone for something like the eggs that Dan had x

Bakers and Roasters sounds like an awesome spot to have delicious food with my family. Thank you so much for your suggestion.
This sounds like such a lovely spot. I really enjoyed how you described the atmosphere and the focus on food over just coffee. It’s always nice finding a place that makes trying new dishes feel relaxed and welcoming.
Oh wow, that Herby Cannellini Beans and Tempeh toast sounds incredible! 😋 I love when cafes take a classic like ‘beans on toast’ and elevate it with flavors like Za’atar and tahini—it sounds so much more exciting than the usual standard breakfast fare.
It’s also great to hear they have such solid options for both vegans and meat-eaters. Dann’s strategy of turning the Navajo Eggs bowl into DIY open-faced sandwiches is totally relatable; sometimes those loaded bowls are a delicious puzzle to figure out! Thanks for sharing this gem—it sounds like the perfect fuel before a trip to the zoo!
I love a breakfast that looks like this , that avocado looks so fresh too! Yum
