[Ad- gifted product] Robin is a huge fan of small figures, creatures, and blind boxes. This made the concept of Beaker Creatures fantastic for her, especially with their Beaker Creatures Reactor Pods and their Beaker Creatures Skull Mountain Volcano. These toys are aimed at children who are interested in science and learning, which is an interesting way to build more of an understanding of science.
Beaker Creatures Skull Mountain Volcano

The Beaker Creatures Skull Mountain Volcano is a decent sized volcano with a skull face to it. There are three parts; the base, the volcano skull, and a container in the top that you can do science experiments into. When we first opened up the volcano, we obviously looked at the box, which has a fizzy, crying eye skull. We did sort of expect this to be what happens when we add in the included Beaker Creatures Reactor Pod, but just as a fair warning, that’s not the case. Within the instructions for the volcano, there are two other experiments that tell you how to add vinegar and baking soda (along with some food coloring) to create the volcano effect on the package. There is also a recipe for a “slime brain” that you can create in the volcano, but none of the material for either of those experiments are included.

What is included is the reactor pod – a sort of bath-bomb looking orb that you can place into the middle slot and drizzle water onto, letting the water cry out of the skulls eyes and down onto the surfaces under it. Robin had a fun time melting this pod! On the front of the box, it does show you which creature you will get, but she didn’t realize that and was well excited with getting “the one featured on the front” of the box. These creatures are color-changing, when you put them in warm or cold water, which is neat. They are inside a little plastic capsule, that you get to pop open, and each one comes with a scientific card where you can write down the number of arms, eyes, etc they have. They also came with some trivia about other creatures in the real world that can change their color or shape depending on their environment.
Beaker Creatures Reactor Pods

We also got a single Beaker Creatures Reactor Pod from series 2, which does state it’s a 3-piece set. Inside is one monster, which is inside the capsule and bath bomb exterior. It does have the same card, already revealing what character it is before you dissolve it away, along with that little bit of information on real-life animals or, in our case, technology as we got a little robot character in our pod. I do feel these reactors could be more fizzy and have more of an experience with them, but as is, they are a fun little blind box that feels more than just opening a bag. We did do more science experiments with our creatures, which was a lot of fun.
