Eating Classic Burgers at Buns Bros

When walking around Southend, we are always looking for a food place that catches our eyes. The outside of Buns Bros, before it opens, is actually a PokeStop in Pokemon Go, as the artwork is so fantastic. This, eventually, led us to eating there one afternoon when we wanted a lunch. Buns Bros is a sort of hole-in-the-wall place, like many of the small units along this side of Southend, that has a few tables outside and a few inside, along with a small window to order food at.

Captain America Burger, Chicken Burger and Pulled Pork Burger at Buns Bros

We got three burgers to try out at Buns Bros, starting with a Captain America Burger, which Dann ate up before I even had a chance to take a picture (as we both mostly thought I took one, to be honest). This is a classic smash burger, with American cheese and all the fixings. It’s a very classic and very easy to eat burger that hits each time. I wanted to try their pulled pork burger, which is a BBQ pulled pork over a smash beef burger bun, with coleslaw to cut through all of that meaty flavor. Their burger sauce is also fantastic! I found this to be so filling. Dann wanted to try their spicy chicken burger, which also had two slices of American cheese and was doused in hot sauce. The chicken was crunchy and well cooked, and the sauce was what you’d expect – nice and spicy.

New York Hotdog, Chicken Bites and Truffle Fries

We also picked up some of their truffle fries, which do not skimp on the truffle oil! It’s really salty and flavorful. I got some of the buffalo chicken bites, but for me, they were soggy instead of crispy, despite eating them as soon as they came out. This was a real let down as the rest of their food was so good. As someone from upstate New York, I also had to order the New York style all-beef hot dog, which was exactly like I remembered it, with a meat chili, some fantastic cheese sauce, and jalapenos. Dann doesn’t love this nacho style cheese sauce, but I do!

My only real complaint about Buns Bros is the fact that when you order to eat in, they still package everything in bags, as if you are leaving, and you need to unwrap it all again. It seems so silly, but I guess that makes the place more “Five Guys” style. I do really love their food though.
