When we heard that Winter Wonderland in London was cancelled this year, we were pretty sad. Dann and I always make a journey to the lovely Winter Wonderland, enjoying all of the foods, rides, and more. Despite it being cancelled, Christmas Wonderland is taking place at Lakeside, and although it isn’t as big, it does have ice skating! I love ice skating so much, it’s something I’ve always done. As a young kid, when ponds would freeze over, everyone would get their skates and ice skate along them, playing games of hockey or just hanging out. It’s a lovely time, so when Dann surprised me with the tickets to go ice skating, I was pretty pumped.
Ice Skating can be pre-booked, to reserve your slot, and there are new rules due to the current restrictions (you’ll need to wear gloves and a mask at all times). When we got there, we got in line and grabbed our ice skates. They are easy to put on – the hockey skate type – before entering the ice. Christmas-themed music played, you can skate for an hour – which is plenty of time to get use to things and get skating. If you are younger, there are penguin ice skating guides that can be used, for an additional fee. I really loved ice skating – especially as I can skate all around Dann. It was so fun.
Along with this ice skating bit, there are a few of the bars and stands, similar to the ones at Winter Wonderland. This area is free to enter, with stands selling pick n mix, ornaments that can be customised, small gifts, and food. There is even one of those bratwurst stands, selling Germany food. I love these little stands, as looking at all of the gifts and ornaments, while getting a hot cider or little treat, is always so warm and winter-feeling. There were a few rides too, as well as some fair games, but not too many. If you are currently at Lakeside, doing a bit of Christmas shopping, it is well worth stopping by and checking out everything Christmas Wonderland has to offer!
