Creating a feature wall with My-Picture.co.uk

[Ad- gifted product] Feature walls are something that I think brings a lot of character to your home, without having to paint a wall and do all of the different updating that can happen when you are painting. As Dann and I have moved into a new house, the first house we have moved into together, I really wanted to be apart of the decorating of the house – and along with themes in the children’s rooms, I wanted to do something super fun and meaningful in our room and in the living room. That’s why we started talking about a picture-focused feature wall.

My grandmother always had a feature wall, along the staircase, where pictures of our entire family hang – from old pictures of people I have never met before to pictures of my baby cousins who have been born quite recently. To the same extent, my father’s house has two feature walls as well. One of these walls has pictures of me and my sister and my brother throughout the ages, decorating above the fireplace. In another long family room, my dad has a wall dedicated to Jesus, as he is a religious man, with pictures of the ten commandments and various pictures of religious people along the wall. I wanted to do a feature wall more similar to my dad’s wall of all of us – to showcase along the longest wall in our living room and a feature wall that’s more personal to Dann and I, in our own bedroom to spruce up the walls.

When looking for a place to purchase these images, I wanted to go with canvas and without any sort of frame. I felt that would be the best look – giving the wall some depth. I ended up going with My-Picture.co.uk, as they always have a bunch of deals going on and are really easy to use!

Family Feature Wall – Living Room

In the living room, Dann and I talked a lot about the wall. This area is behind the TV, as well as his desk, and means that people sitting on the couch or at the table, would always be looking at this wall. There is plenty of space on the wall, which meant a lot of pictures could fit through it – it’s just a matter of how we want to decorate. Dann feels that the pictures should be updated often, to reflect what we’ve done in the last few years, so we don’t end up with a stale, outdated living room. We decided to sit down and pick out a bunch of pictures that included all of us – pictures of us and the kids in various places that they’ve really enjoyed. We wanted to make sure that they were well represented on the wall, picking out ones that were just them as well, and ones that were them individually out and about, having fun.

Once we got our first batch of canvas prints from My-Picture.co.uk, we weren’t sure if it was really enough – and the children kept pointing out that pets were not feature on the Family Feature Wall, so we ended up ordering some more that include both cats and Robin’s hamster Lasagne. Amelia does have a bunch of aquatic creatures, but they are much more challenge to include in a feature wall.

One of the things we did with these pictures was got three different sizes. We wanted to make the wall feel full, fun and have different sizes for people to look at. My-Picture.co.uk has a bunch of different sizes to choose from, and different shapes – squares and rectangles – that can fit better with different pictures. It ended out coming out really well, and I quite enjoy the mix of the different sizes.

Just Us Feature Wall – Bedroom

When it came to our room, it’s a different space. There aren’t guests or visitors, or even the children hanging out in our room. It’s our space, our own little haven away from the rest of the house. So, we wanted to do something a bit different for our feature wall. We don’t really want a bunch of large pictures of us being cute on a wall. Instead, we picked a side wall to feature memories of us together on and personal tokens of our relationship. When we both went to the Illumination Festival, we were told we could keep our bauble that we carried around. Previously, this had been in storage, but it feels like such a good area to start working around on the wall, as it gives guides the eye and gives a lot of depth. We then added pictures, starting with the pictures from Created By Magic, where we have a beautiful picture of Pancake our first cat-child together, and a picture of our favorite place to eat in Sweden. We also put up Dann’s Father’s Day picture collage and my poster from a gaming event I judged.

We added in our picture of Pancake from Iconic Paw, a picture collage that Dann made me for our 2nd anniversary, and a personalised map which showcases a town Dann and I love hanging out in and go on dates in often. All of these pictures have thin, black frames and are different – not really pictures and instead have more meaning behind them. That’s why we ended up picking out a star map from My-Picture.co.uk, which shows the stars in the sky, above the location that Dann and I met, at the moment we met up together. There are a couple of different options, beyond picking your time, date, and location out. You can pick between a few colors and decide if you want a grid added to your map, which can look interesting as well. It’s such an adorable way to highlight the day we met, when our lives fully connected, and it’s a unique addition to this wall of collected moments and meaningful looks into our relationship together and the important moments we have had together.

Small Details

As previously mentioned, we want to keep updating these images, so that we can have a living wall of memories. We find this is a really fun way for the children to remember going out and about, and for us to keep the wall fresh and current. Because of that, we decided to use Velcro Command Hooks on the back of the pictures. These canvas pictures are really light, so adding command hooks on the back of them holds them up well without damaging our walls, but it also allows us to purchase more pictures of the same sizes, and then pull them down, and just replace the command hook on the back of each picture itself, and leave up the Velcro side that is stuck to the wall. Then, we can snap the new ones in place.

The pictures themselves, from My-Picture.co.uk, were really easy to get set up and printed. We just uploaded our pictures, selected the size of the canvas we wanted, and then got to fill in some small details like if we wanted the image stretched or if we wanted the sides to have a boarder. I went with a white boarder on them as I felt that was sleek. The pictures came quite quickly, and the quality is really lovely. All of the images are clear and not at all blurry.

You can use the code MYINSTA5 to get £5 off any order of above £30, excluding MIXPIX and facemasks on My-Picture.co.uk. This offer does combine with any on-site sales.
