Ding Dong Dim Sum Set Boxes – Perfect for Date Night

[Ad- gifted product] Dann and I are big food lovers, especially Asian food. Though we are known to go out quite a bit, it’s fun to mix things up and have an at home date night from time to time. Especially as we are both people who work from home, and with kids to feed in the evening, having a little at home date night box full of food for a lunchtime date is sometimes absolutely perfect. That’s exactly what we did with our Ding Dong Dim Sum Set box – we went with the Legends box – which was so much fun!

Ding Dong Dim Sum has a few different options when it comes to these set boxes, so you can pick one that you and your partner very much like, as they are made for two people. We went with the Legends box because it had some staples we very much like; pork xiaolongbao, char siu bun and two types of gyoza to start. The whole kit came in one box, delivered on our doorstep, and it was all within the date and time I selected – which is fantastic. Everything is frozen, so you can put it right in your freezer to save for later, but for us we cooked it as soon as it came.

The Ding Dong Dim Sum Legends box does come completely frozen and you are meant to cook it from frozen, which is interesting. The entire box is very well packaged, brightly colored, and everything makes sense. We took out the flyer out that gives a breif, and colorful, description of what to do then started unpacking. On the top of our box, we had a bunch of dips inside some of our biodegradable steamer – which I will talk about in depth soon. Under this, wrapped in a very tight and frozen container, was all of our food. This little box had two layers of dim sum in it, so there was plenty!

We opened the box, cut along the line, and it showed all of the instructions on how to prepare the food. All of our dim sum was there and we started putting together the steamer. This is absolutely genius! We do have our own steamer, but it is quite bulky and can be annoying to clean. It’s also not something everyone has, so having this one that’s so easy to put together and then throw away afterwards is such a good idea. While all of the dim sum was steaming, I grabbed the rice and heated it up in a pot (it is microwaveable, but I don’t have one). The kit came with a slaw dressing, but no carrot – we had some in the fridge that we grated up and added the sauce onto, and set aside. The goyza went in a pan with a bit of oil when there was six minutes left on my fifteen minute dim sum timer. There was edamame, which was just put in boiling water for a moment and then was done!

Everything was very easy to throw together and eat all at once, which I really appreciate. The whole meal was done in like 20 minutes. We both very much enjoyed every aspect of it. The goyza was crispy on the outside, the dim sum was well steamed… We did find the soup dumplings stuck a bit to the steamer and so had some issues taking them off of the steamer without the soup coming out, but I feel we’ve had that issue with our normal steamer as well. Both Dann and I finished lunch feeling full, and there was plenty of sauce left. We had rice seasoning for our rice, then had a spicy dip, a sesame dip and an original dip. All of them were very good!

If you’re looking for a meal to have at home, especially this Valentine’s Day weekend, the Ding Dong Dim Sum box sets are such a fantastic choice. They do taste very high quality, and there are a great amount of food in each box, making for a cute (but not too long!) cooking experience before eating tons of tiny bites.
