Don’t Fall for It – Trivia-based Board Game

[Ad- gifted product] Every other week, we go to our local Geek Retreat to try out a new board game! This time, we played some Don’t Fall for It, which is a trivia-based board game with a large range of subjects. The age rating on this board game is ten and above, though, Robin is nine (nearly ten) so we figured we would see how it would go. The board itself was interesting; it folds out into a tower that you then can place a bunch of cardboard planks across the inside of the tower. There is a pre-made little triangle that goes in the bottom, and needs to be snug.

Once the tower for Don’t Fall for It is set up, you can then drop in a bunch of little wooden blocks, which will get caught on the different planks. Aside from the tower, there is a little cardboard card holder, that you need to place a bunch of wooden circle pieces on, covering up the answers. These trivia cards have a subject on the top like Oreo Flavors, Smurf names, gym terms… that sort of thing. Under the subject, there are ten answers but only five of them are true. Split into two teams, you each need to pick an answer you think is correct, remove the circle piece, and see if you got it. If it is correct, you pass the trivia card to the next team, but if it’s not correct, you need to remove a plank of the same color as the circle.

This little trivia holder was my only real problem with the game. I found it very challenging to pass the trivia holder from side to side, as the circles fell out. When they were pushed in a ton and did not fall out, it was extremely hard to take them out. I love that Big Potato Games create plastic-free games, but I do feel this board game would have done better with a plastic trivia card holder! When it came to the tower, removing planks make the cubes fall, and a team loses when they have five cubes. We just played until all of the planks were out, seeing who had the most blocks. We did find that the trivia worked well for all of our family; even Kai played along, and we enjoyed hearing the blocks move around as you pull out the planks.
