[Ad- gifted product] Robin is always interested in trying out new video games, and when coming across Dragons: Dawn of New Riders, she was well interested in the idea of flying around dragons and battling enemies! This game, by Outright Games, feels like it’s one for older children, tweens, and adults alike. You get to play as a dragon, going into various levels and trying to defeat monsters!
This game is heavily focused on battles, puzzles, and exploration while flying around! You are able to unlock dragons, collect gems, and otherwise explore. When booting it up, we were surprised to find that Dragons: Dawn of New Riders isn’t actually a two player game, though there are a bunch of dragons, and instead is a game that you are meant to play alone. With that in mind, Robin got to finding more dragons and fighting off enemies.
There are a few different attacks that can be used in battles, along with a lot of dodging that needs to be done! The variety of enemies are good enough to keep things interesting, while also giving familiarity when it comes to fighting hordes of them! There are also a bunch of different puzzles that require you to switch between Patch and their dragon, so that you can move around objects or trigger buttons that move things along. It’s a really good way to break up exploration or fighting, adding in new mechanics that you can take on.
Most of the levels were very straight forward in movement, with secret passageways that you can take slightly off course, to gain more gems. It’s a fun time, and Robin only really got lost when she died and ended up respawning at a place she didn’t quite remember. The check points are pretty generous otherwise though! As Robin is seven, she did have some challenges when it came to the battling system, but nothing that she couldn’t handle after a bit of practice! If you’ve got a How to Train Your Dragon fan, you can count on Dragons: Dawn of New Riders to keep them interested and busy!
