[Ad- gifted experience] Dann and I are always looking for new places to eat! Whether it’s a sit down restaurant or a quick takeaway, it’s always a fun time to try new food and enjoy a meal together. Midweek, we decided to treat ourselves and head over to Luton to try out the new Gao Express location, which is a Halal Chinese takeaway (with limited seating inside) that has a bunch of fantastic dishes to choose from.
Spring Rolls and Spicy Chicken with Peppercorn

Dann said “you cannot not get spring rolls” so that’s what he wanted. These spring rolls were decent; crunchy, comes with a pot of curry sauce, plenty in a portion. I feel like spring rolls have tasted pretty much the same everywhere I have had them and these were exactly what I had expected. It’s simple, crunchy, easy eating! I got the Spicy Chicken with Peppercorn, which is fried pieces of chicken, in a crunchy batter, covered in garlic, spicy peppers, peppercorn, onion bits and pepper bits. I do really enjoy chicken like this – the crunch of them and the flavors of all of the spices. This came with a few pots of sauce to dip; a sweet chili sauce and a sweet and sour sauce. Dann enjoyed the sweet and sour a lot, which ended up being his favorite sauce from Gao Express. I liked both with my chicken but the chicken was also great without any sauce.
House Special Thai Green Curry and Crispy Shredded Beef

Now, we made the mistake of not ordering any rice (which is something we often do when grabbing take-away, as we will just make up the rice at home normally). Dann got the House Special Thai Green Curry, which was extremely fresh. All of the vegetables in the curry were clearly chopped up and cooked up today, which he loved. The sauce itself was great, perfect to go with a bit of rice, and there was plenty of meat and vegetables inside the dish. I got the Crispy Shredded Beef, which again was super crispy. The beef strips were a fantastic size and I love the sauce it’s in. Both of these were very good portions and filled us up!
Lamb Ribs in Peaking Sauce and Prawn Crackers

Dann came hungry and wanted to try one more thing; Lamb Ribs. I have never had lamb ribs before, but they were big, in a stick and sweet sauce, and tasted of lamb of course. These were very good, super well cooked, and the meat came off the bone nicely. We also got some Prawn Crackers, which feels like a classic, that Dann then used to spoon up the sauces he liked and the curry. You can get a free serving of prawn crackers too by leaving a Google Review for Gao Express! This is a neat offer.
The staff at this small unit were very kind and helpful, and there are plenty of set menus for individuals and options for those wanting to grab their go-to’s from a Chinese takeaway! We had a fun time eating and hanging out there, with such a simple, fuss-free meal. Gao Express does a lovely job of providing quality takeaway that feels fresh and well made.
