Good Face Bad Face requires a Poker Face

[Ad- gifted product] Our bi-weekly, family board game session, after school, at Geek Retreat featured Good Face Bad Face this time! Kai was already all settled into his Kids DnD session before Amelia, Dann, Robin and I started playing our game. Good Face Bad Face is pretty simple in concept – just containing a deck of cards. All you need to do is collect four Good Face cards to win the entire game. But, you don’t have much control on what you get!

One player, who is the deck master for the round, gets to arrange the cards in the deck in whatever way they want. Then, the deck gets passed from one player to the next. You have the option of taking a card from the top or passing it to the next player. If you take a card, and it’s a Good Face, you can put it in front of you and pick to take another. If you end up drawing a Bad Face, it cancels out all of your Good Face cards, moving those to a discard, and you have to pass on the deck. If you don’t have any Good Face cards, the Bad Face card sits in front of you until you pull a Good Face to cancel that one out.

The Good Face Bad Face deck then continues around until it reaches the deck master, who then has to draw the next card. There is a bit of thrill in deciding if you are picking up a card or if you are passing it on. You’ll end up looking a lot at the Deck Master to see if they are deceiving you! Amelia has a fantastic Poker Face, so she was able to really trick us. Robin on the other hand isn’t very good at keeping the next card secret – when she can keep track of them that is. Good Face Bad Face is a very quick game to set up and play and easy to take with you. We liked how short and compact the rounds were, which is ideal for shorter sessions of gameplay.

There are some bonus cards in Good Face Bad Face that can be played, to mix up the gameplay a bit more, but as we were playing with younger children we kept these out. It’s nice that the game can scale and be more complex though! Dann and I have actually played Good Face Bad Face with our tabletop group since, which was an equally fun time before having our dinner.

Sounds like the Good Face Bad Face board game is pretty interesting for both kids and adults alike. The short and compact rounds are attractive aspects as well.
