[Ad- gifted experience] Late last year, we got to try out a Christmas at home experience with Wonder Adventures – and as it turns out, they have a number of other at home events that are perfect for younger kids who need something fun to do! As we have been stuck inside for quite some time, we have been looking at loads of activities that feel like going out, without actually going outside. The Intergalactic Space Treasure Hunt is a really interesting at home activity.
Unlike the Christmas event, this one isn’t a livestream – so you can do the hunt at your own pace and time, making sure that it is a perfect fit for your family. This event is aimed at ages two to eight, with younger kinds probably needing a bit of help. There isn’t much prep to be done – all you need to do is print off a few pictures and puzzle pieces, cut them and hide them, and then start the videos. The images that are sent to be printed are really high quality – I almost wish they were more on the clip-art end, but there is instructions on how to do this entire event without a printer, if you find the images are too high quality or if you just don’t have a printer.
Once the images were hidden around the house, we started the videos. The first of the set included our larger than life astronaut host, Buzz the space ranger. Buzz walks you through instructions on what the children will be doing – which is simple enough. They will be given seven riddles, and once they have found the answer, they need to find the appropriate picture and grab the puzzle piece from behind it. Once the rules are laid out, Buzz leads everyone in a song and dance.
Amelia and Robin aren’t super outgoing, so when it comes to the song and dance, Dann and I had to get involved. These dances are simple enough and really get kids moving – which is a big plus. We danced around and sang the songs, before getting the first clue. These clues were somewhat complex – especially for the younger Robin, however we called on Kai’s knowledge on the particularly tricky ones and he knew everything. Running around the house to find the correct picture was a fun twist, and after the first song and dance, there is mainly clues until the end. Once all of the pieces are found, you will get to put together the puzzle and do another round of song and dance before the show is wrapped up.
The Intergalactic Space Treasure Hunt is really clever, in the way that it’s split across multipole videos, but the backend to the site allows you to play one after another easily, but still allows you to give your children the time they need to collect all of the pieces. This video can be with used with a group as well, which can be really fun in a party or classroom setting. If you do purchase the Intergalactic Space Treasure Hunt, you have access to the videos and print outs for an entire year, so you do not need to rush to do it that weekend or anything! It’s a great time for those looking for a bit of extra fun at home.
