Dann and I go to Germany each and every year, specifically to Cologne, for Gamescom as apart of our day jobs. We’ve basically done everything we could possibly go or so we thought! This year, Dann surprised me by finding a new place; Katzentempel Koln, which is a vegan cat cafe, right in Cologne. I absolutely love cat cafes and have been to a few in London. You do not need to pre-book, so we went along in the afternoon during one of the days we were there.
Fruity Dragon & Matcha Latte
Dann and I both got a Fruity Dragon to start off with, which is a sweet, dragon fruit that is in carbonated water. It’s very clear that this is a syrup added to the water, as the syrup at the bottom was super sweet and sticky. I wish that we knew so that we could have stirred it in, as that would have resulted in a better tasting drink overall. I also got a Matcha Latte with my desserts, which was warm and delicious. As someone who cannot have cows milk, it was great that they automatically used a mlk alternative.
Rainbow Bowl & Tiger Bowl
Katzentempel’s main food menu has sandwiches, burgers and these rice bowls. As Dann and I are both not big bread people, we both went with different rice bowls. Dann got the Rainbow Bowl which had spicy, plant-based chicken, coleslaw, mango, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, their pea-based guacamole, house made sauce, and roasted sesame seeds. It’s a packed bowl and his was vibrant and fun! The chicken itself had a good kick to it. I got the Tiger Bowl which had plant-based pulled pork, kimchi styled vegetables, mango, red cabbage, fried onions, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, hummus, cranberry may, and almonds. With so much going on in the bowl, it was a big texture journey and I really enjoyed the hummus and flavor of the dish. You get to pick another dressing for each one, with me picking the orange vinaigrette and Dann picking the raspberry one.
Creamy Carrot Cake & Apple Pie a la Cat Temple
For desserts, Dann got the Creamy Carrot Cake which was a very moist cake, with lemon icing, that was served with white chocolate mousse and maple syrup. He said it was delicious and I loved the little cat print made out of cinnamon. I got the apple pie a la cat temple, which was a warm apple crumble cake with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and maple syrup. It was very appley and had a great amount of sweetness.
Katzentempel only has six cats, but they are enough cats to bring personality and fun to the place! I quite enjoyed being around them, and the staff were being very respectful of the cats and gently letting children know to leave the ones that are resting alone. There were plenty of places for the cats to hide away as well. Katzentempel also focuses on being vegan and sustainable, which is always fantastic to see. I really enjoyed being around the cats and hanging out as well. You can become a godparent to the cats there, specifically picking a cat (as they all have names and information about each one in the back of the menu booklet) which goes towards their upkeep.
I will always, ALWAYS be a fan of going anywhere with either cats or good food. So, combining them is the perfect thing to me!
I love carrot cakes, they’re my favorite…I am always looking for the best carrot cake in town, can’t wait to try this one…Can’t wait.
This is just the kind of place I like to take my granddaughter to as well. She loves cats more than anyone I know. ๐
What a fabulous place to stop by whilst you are in Cologne. The food at Katzentempel looks delicious and a cat haven indeed for cat lovers. Glad Dann found it
Good food with the company of adorable cats. Sounds like a fun place to me.
Katzentempel sounds like a wonderful place for cat lovers to enjoy a meal in a cozy setting. I need to visit this cafe with my bestie, who is a cat lover too ๐.
Katzentempel Koln would be a great place to visit with my family in my opinion. Playing with cats is one of the best experiences for sure.
