Trying KFC’s new Pickle Menu

I am known widely as someone who very much enjoys pickles. Specifically, American-style dill pickles that often can only be found at Subway or McDonalds, as they are very sour and very much full of dill. I am known to like pickles so much, that four separate people told me about the KFC pickle menu, and I honestly thought it was some sort of April Fool’s joke, until it came out! Dann and I went right to our local KFC to try it all. Pickle Mania is what they are calling their new pickle range, which can all be ordered in one box meal. Dann and I each got a box, which was fun to try!

Pickle Loaded Fries

Pickle Loaded Fries were by far my favorite new menu item. They were a bunch of fries, topped with popcorn chicken, dehydrated (YES, DEHYDRATED) pickle slices, a dill powder and a dill sauce. I did not understand fully the dehydrated pickles, as they very much are just a crunchy, tasteless thing. I get that pickles would make the pickle loaded fries soggy, but I feel like having them as a side option would make more sense. When I got the loaded fries, they had plenty of the powdered seasoning on them, which was really good! I also liked the sauce too. It’s just the best thing on the KFC pickle menu.

Frickles

I really love frickles, though I normally have them in spheres. I did have high hopes for these! The pickles themselves were okay and they had plenty of coating – I just wish there was something more. I feel some of the seasoning powder from the fries as an add-on would help a lot. Alternatively, and sort of dip; ranch, a dill-sour-cream… really anything would bring these up. There are quite a bit in the packet, which is nice, they just are a little dry.

Pickle Chicken Burger

I am not a huge KFC burger fan at all, as I just am not a big burger person, but obviously I am going to try a pickle chicken burger. This burger had a bunch of the dehydrated pickles on the top, which were crunchy but tasted like nothing. Again, I really do not understand this choice. There was plenty of the dill sauce too, which was decent, though when it comes to the actual pickles on the burger from the KFC pickle menu, I had two on my sandwich. I do wish there were more! More pickles. This burger could also do with some lettuce to freshen it up.

Pickle Pepsi

If you order a pickle Pepsi from the KFC pickle menu, it’s a sort of do it yourself job. It comes with a small cup of pickle juice, with two pickles in it, that you can dump into your Pepsi. These pickles weren’t very dill for me at all and adding in the pickle juice was a strange sort of taste. Maybe I am just not use to the flavor of Pepsi though, as I do not drink Pepsi myself. Dann said this tastes a lot like a Pepsi lime-aid, which was bizarre, and I do appreciate the idea of not having it mixed in, I suppose.

The KFC pickle range, Pickle Mania, is in stores until April 19th, and isn’t actually a prank, so if you are a massive fan of pickles it might be worth trying it out!
