Las Tapas Eat Drink Indulge | Restaurant Review

Las Tapas

Tapas is always an exciting time out! While looking for places to eat nearby, Dann came across Las Tapas in Brentwood. This restaurant has loads of small plates, as well as a full dining menu and desserts, but we went with one thing in mind; ordering lots of tapas! The menu looked fancy and lovely, the venue was small but nice, and we were excited to be back out and about at a new place to eat! Let’s dive into what we had.

Drinks

Las Tapas

Dann was driving so he just got a ginger ale. Jupiter on the other hand went for a Gin Blossom drink which was super lovely. The drink is quite floral, light, and refreshing. Perfect on this warm day and a great opening to the meal. There was a decent sized cocktail menu as well as a wine menu, which is nice if you do like drinking.

Patatas Fritas and Padron Peppers

There are foods that come to mind when you think of tapas, and the two classics for us are always padron peppers and potatoes braves. Instead of potatoes braves, Las Tapas had Patatas Fritas with a braves sauce and aioli. The potatoes were well fried and dipping it in these sauces were nice. We really liked the braves sauce, and wish there was more of it to be honest! The Padron Peppers were lovely – nice and salty, as well as well cooked. They are always a hit and you can never go wrong with a big plate of peppers!

Atun Con Aguacate & Mango and Alcachofas

We have been eating more fish lately, so we went for the Atun Con Aguacate and Mango. This dish looked beautiful – it was sliced, seared tuna on top of an avocado mash, with a mango salsa on top and micro greens. Sadly, this was actually the most disappointing of the dishes, the tuna was so fishy in flavor, it was overwhelming, while the mango and avocado had basically no flavor at all, so all we got was fishiness. The Alcachofas was, on the other hand, one of the best dishes. This dish is made of grilled baby artichokes, ajo blanco, almond flakes and black olive crumbs and came out looking like something served to fairies in the forest. The artichokes were super well cooked and so easy to eat, the sauce was creamy, salty, and just lovely. Black olive crumbs are not something we had experienced before and they were very salty and interesting! If we had bread, we would have soaked up the sauce and cleaned this plate completely.

Berenjena and Croqueta Carne

Both of these dishes were really lovely! The Berenjena is baked aubergine, topped with chopped tomato, red onion, feta and an olive tapenade. The aubergine was well cooked and the topping was light and refreshing! The hits of feta really added a bit of salt, which balanced the dish very well. It’s a really lovely vegetarian option. The Croqueta Carne was creamy, nice, and the sauce under each of these pieces was slightly spiced and very good to dip the croqueta into. We love creamy croquetas so these hit the mark.

Las Tapas had amazing food, we really enjoyed almost all of our dishes, but the service itself in Brentwood was a real downside. There were, maybe at the busiest, 6 other tables in the restaurant, yet our waitress just didn’t seem to pay attention to us. After we arrived, we had to wait around 30 minutes before our order was taken, despite being ready quite early on. When ordering our drinks, we asked for tap water. This water didn’t come with our first round of food, so we asked again. We were given our second round of food, and still no water, so we asked again. Our third round of food came and after we were served that, we were finally given a glass of water. The waitress asked us if we wanted our check before we had gotten our Berenjena, so she needed to be reminded of that, and then it came out shortly after. By this time, our water was gone, and we were not offered new water or anymore drinks. The waitress for our area seemed much more interested in the bar staff, taking loudly and joking to them. Towards the end of our meal, the table next to us ended up being used to shoot some photos by a photographer, and our waitress spent a lot of time talking to that person as well instead of tending to customers. Two other tables that were there loudly talking about how bad the service was as well. This was a big shame actually, and we will probably check out other locations in the future.

They certainly know how to present. It might not hurt to send this link to the manager. They should know their staff is slacking. That is something that can definitely hurt business.

I want to try the Croqueta Carne for sure… and honestly everything looks amazing there! I will have to check it out when I am in the area and thank you for sharing!
