It’s our second month with Little Cooks Co Baking Box, and we were excited to dive right in. There seems to be a dessert theme with this box, which is interesting, as all of these recipes are quite healthy for desserts! This month is really no exception. The main recipe in this box were chocolate caramel bites – but the entire recipe actually contains no sugar. We weren’t really sure how the kids would react to something called caramel that isn’t made with sugar, but they actually really loved it.
The caramel chocolate bites had a mixed flour recipe for the base. Amelia and I worked together creating the base and spreading it into the pan, then we moved on to the most interesting caramel I have ever seen in my life. It was actually dates soaked in milk / water with a little honey and vanilla. Amelia has cooked with dates before, making an Indian date dessert for school some time ago, and really enjoys them. When we blitzed up the caramel, she kept tasting it – dipping her finger into the jar and stating how delicious it was. We set the date caramel on top and then moved to the chocolate sauce, which was cocoa and milk / butter – a really simple topping. Amelia actually doesn’t like chocolate (apart from white chocolate) so she didn’t really like this bit, and felt that the treat wasn’t yummy. Though, she said she would like to try it with a white chocolate topping, as the caramel was so yummy.
This recipe was very easy, though there were a few different points where we needed to wait quite some time for layers to set in the freezer or on the side, which Amelia did not enjoy waiting for! But, that’s kids for you. A second recipe and batch of dry ingredients were also in the box, allowing Amelia to create some simple flatbread (we just needed to add yogurt) which we ate with hummus. These came out super lovely and Amelia liked rolling them out with the rolling pin.
Along with the two recipes, there were a few more cards to use as ice breakers at the table, a bunch of tomato seeds which Amelia planted, and a craft to make one of those telephones out of two tin can things, but Amelia felt that the craft wasn’t a real craft and didn’t want to make it. Instead, she has spent the week customizing a clock as her main craft.
We are still very happy with the Little Cooks Co Baking Box, and it’s so interesting to see recipes that I have never seen myself. The little book that allows Amelia to write down her feelings is also so fun to see, as I am always interested in her thoughts on these sorts of things!
I have seen these and waiting for my granddaughter to get a little older as she loves baking and will love these boxes each month as she is a little baker in the making
Ohhh that is so exciting!
This looks absolutely fantastic! My daughter is of the age where she will bake without me now… I am literally banished from the kitchen! It is such a fun activity for kids, the tasty treats are bonus!
I can’t wait until Amelia hits that age!
Ahh I love the look of this box . I think the girls would love it especially over the next half term. They love baking
It’s a great idea!
Looks like a great box, although I can’t believe she only likes white chocolate! The flatbreads look good, I really want to try making some myself x
I have never met a child who doesn’t like candy before! It’s wild.
I love how there’s so many boxes out there for people’s interests. I love baking myself and quite enjoy white chocolate buttons lol – I don’t have a huge sweet tooth but this looks really fun.
It is a really fun box!
I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this box before! My youngest loves to bake so this would be right up his street. Is it expensive to subscribe to?
Louise x
I don’t feel it’s expensive for the amount of ingredients you get and the quality.
