Oh My Pigeons – Silly Bird-Inspired Board Game

[Ad- gifted product] On our bi-weekly board game night at Geek Retreat, we sat down to play Oh My Pigeons! This board game is one we saw at the Christmas Press Show before Christmas of last year, and got an adorable key chain stuffed animal of. Robin, who loves birds, was quite interested in the sound of the game, especially after having the plush key chain for so long. It’s a silly game where you find yourself trying to fill up a coop of pigeons.

Oh My Pigeons is pretty simple to set up. You do get some pigeons to start along with three cards in your hand. On your turn, you are able to play your cards and follow what they say! Some cards have you rolling a die to see what happens; you can steal pigeons from other players, get some from the flock in the center of the table, or get the poo side, where you need to flick the die at someone else’s coop, knocking out some pigeons and stealing them for yourself. On the coop, there is a clear outline of the number of pigeons needed to win the game, the goal being to fill your coop.

Once you have played your cards, you can then draw back to three. Most of the time, we found ourselves only playing one, but there are some cards that can be played together so that you can do a more powerful steal. We all quite liked the art on the cards, especially Amelia and Robin who thought the pictures were extremely funny. I do wish that the little pigeon meeples in Oh My Pigeon were colored in, as they feel so dull compared to the cards and general feel of the game. Filling up the coop can happen quickly or take some time, if people are playing their cards right!

The most fun moment of the game is flicking the die at the other coops. There is a small risk of losing the die, but it’s such a fun aspect and feels pretty unique. It can be challenging to actually knock off many meeples, which feels balanced. Robin and Amelia both found the game to be easy to understand and quite fun to play, with us playing quite a few rounds before we were ready to head home.
