[Ad- gifted products] My beautiful, silly, sleepy, kitten is now a full cat. I mean, we only got him a few weeks ago – but Pancake is the baby of the family now, being a pampered cat. In his passport (yes, he has a passport) it says that his birthday was September 14th! Pancake has a passport as he was born in Bulgaria, then went to Ukraine, then to the United Kingdom. You see, he is a pure bread, with a long family line of… something. I don’t really know, I feel in love with Pancake’s silly face, soppy demeanor and general lazy outlook on life. As some of our friends wanted to meet Pancake and the kids like celebrations, throwing a birthday party for a cat seemed like the sane thing to do, of course.

Dinner Party
For dinner, we had a very cat themed make your own sushi party! Claire, the kids and Dann had never rolled their own sushi – apart from Dann they had never even tried it before. I got loads of fillings ready; peppers, cucumber, salmon, fish sticks, asparagus and avocado while Dann prepped a lovely miso soup with mushrooms and some edamame. We also made sushi rice (by seasoning the rice with a mix of rice vinegar, sugar and salt.) After finding that I would need to basically roll all of these sushi rolls, I ended up taking less pictures than I figured I would, but had a lovely time chatting and rolling away. We had a couple of bamboo rolling mats and plenty of ingredients!
Cake
As for cake, us normal humans are less fussy in what they eat, so I made up some vanilla cup cakes with a lemon frosting. The kids opted for ice pops as a dessert instead, which was totally fine too. For Pancake however, he needed something special. We are still learning what Pancake likes to eat, as he is a fussy eater (yet only really eats dry food). I ended up making him his own tuna cup cakes. Here is what I needed:
Tuna Cake
Ingredients
- 1 can Tuna drained
- 1/2 cup Wholemeal Flour
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 tbsp Cat Nip
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 30 ml Olive Oil
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven at 180 Celsius
- Mix together egg and oil
- Add the tuna and mix together
- Stir in flour until a lump dough forms
- Spoon into paper cupcake wrappers
- Bake for 30 to 45 minutes
Notes
Cats are picky, who knows. Pancake did lots of licking of his cupcake, so I broke it apart for him and he nibble on some bits while making a mess with others. I enjoyed cooking for him though. Do remember to take off the wrapping before serving though.
Pancake’s new bowl from GiftPup
It’s worth mentioning that leading up to Pancake’s birthday, we have been grabbing bits and bobs for him to have. A bunch of new mice, a harness to go outside, and GiftPup sent over a really nice bowl set for him! This wooden frame has his name ‘Pancake’ carved into it, as well as some cute paws. One side holds food, while the other holds his water. The bowls are very clean so he sometimes pats the water to see if it is there, which is pretty funny. They are also removable, to be taken out if you need to refill them. The crafting on the bowl set is simply wonderful – they couldn’t have sent a more perfect product for our little cat. GiftPup has tons of awesome, personalized items for cats, dogs and even humans! It’s quite neat that everything is so personalized.
I know that Pancake doesn’t know it’s his birthday or that this little celebration was for him, but it was still a lovely time. I was happy that Pancake felt so relaxed here already, and when you have a pet with a passport, I guess they should get the silly things in life like birthday parties! Either way, I am sure there will be a sushi night at this time next year and maybe I’ll get him some cat oil.
