We check out a lot of DIY food kits in our household and we are also big fans of wings. When I saw the Passyunk Avenue Steak and Wing Love Bundle, I wanted one. They have a bunch of DIY food kits – from sandwiches to just wings to ballpark-themed boxes, providing the UK with authentic American food. Our bundle had enough to make two Philly cheese steaks and a bunch of buffalo wings for us to enjoy.
Philly Cheese Steak
I’ve not had a cheese steak from Philly, but I do enjoy steak sandwiches! For our cheese steaks, we got chopped onions, two breads, two steaks and cheese wiz (though you can choose from other cheeses if you’d like). The Philly cheese steak bundle has two, partcially baked bits of italian bread – and Passyunk Avenue has spent years finding the best recipe for this. The bread needed to be baked first, drizzled slightly in water. Our bread took about double the time stated to cook before it was ready, but we put this down to our oven.
Once the bread was baked and set aside, we started on the onions. These were pre-diced, so we just added it to a pan with a splash of olive oil, cooked, and set aside. The steak, which is meant to be used next, is thinly chopped, ready for being thrown onto a flattop griddle and chopped with a metal spatula – however, we don’t have one of those. The kit recommended slicing the steak into thinner slices before adding it to the pan, with a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper, so we did that. At the same time, we put the cheese wiz into a little pan and started heating it up. Once the meat is cooked to medium, you can add the onions, cook it for a bit longer, then put it into your bread – pouring your cheese wiz on top.
The cheese wiz was far better than anything I’ve had in America – tasting like a zesty mix of cheddar, much better than the plastic stuff sold in stores here. The steak was peppery and delicious, the bread perfectly baked. The amount of meat made for two very filling sandwiches!
Buffalo Wings
We love buffalo wings, but it’s hard to get good wings around here. In our kit, we got plenty of buffalo sauce, blue cheese, and a dozen or so wings. Wings we easily cooked by spacing them out in a pan and rotating halfway through. These wings seemed to be coated, but it’s quite weird to describe. The outside really did crisp up well – which was very impressive without frying. Once the wings were done, we dolloped some buffalo sauce into a bowl and tossed the wings, before serving. The texture of them was a bit weird – the meat was falling off the bone – though they weren’t as good as the best wings I’ve had out, they were in fact the best wings I’ve made at home. The buffalo sauce was spicy and much like traditional buffalo sauce – though the blue cheese was far different than any I had eaten before and we didn’t really end up using it.
This process was quite straight forward and Passyunk Avenue also provides both a video tutorial and a written instruction tutorials online. This kit felt much like home cooking, but with pre-portioned ingredients that were very high quality. I felt very full after my food and so did Dann – and we had a great time eating a little taste of America from the comfort of our kitchen.
What a cool kit, I love the idea. And the cheesesteak looks amazing, great job!

Oh I LOVE Passyunk Avenue! My brother is obsessed with Philly cheesesteaks, I took him in the summer and he loved it. Will definitely have to look into this kit over lockdown.
It’s a great quality kit – even the cheese sauce is better for you, but still has a really good flavor!
Amazing cheesesteak, will def buy again.
