Bring the movie to life with PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls

[Ad- gifted product] Our household is full of gamers. With both Dann and I working full time in the video game industry, we tend to play a lot of games together. Though Kai is into games that the youngest can’t really play, we spend a lot of time compromising and playing games together. With such a big age gap, often we need to find games that Robin would enjoy playing – as she can’t get into strategy games. One of her favorites are PAW Patrol – probably due to loving the Pups and their TV show. Previously, we took a look at PAW Patrol: Might Pups, which Robin enjoyed, but with the new movie out, there of course, is a new game called PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls.

Before we dived into the game, we had to go and see the movie of the same name. Robin and Amelia both went with me, and they had a really lovely time. Both of them do enjoy PAW Patrol, and loved seeing the newest Pup, Liberty, join the team. The movie was pretty funny, with Mayor Humdinger providing some silly laughs as pups are banned from the city, and as he makes terrible decisions that can only be fixed by the PAW Patrol!

When it comes to PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls the video game, the game is local two player, but can be played in single player. The main focus is, of course, on Liberty with Chase being the side character but still being quite focused on. In the movie, Chase and Liberty are the real focus, though, so I understand why this video game chooses to focus on this. The narrator of the game talks directly to Liberty, telling her to find the best route, which is nice. Chase does follow Liberty, so you can play along with your child or literally just let the game play with them and state you are playing. Who knows if they will notice. There are other pups to choose from, and the narrator does adapt depending on who you pick.

The game itself is a platformer type game where the two pups follow each other around – they can’t actually get too far away from each other – moving through the big city to collect paw treats and use the two pups abilities to solve issues! At once point, we used Chase’s zip line to get over a building and Liberty used her new scooter to race around the city. These mini-games within the game only use one player, and it does seem like in future levels, some of the other pups make an appearance to use their abilities to help out the city.

Now, we weren’t actually able to get that far into PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls – due to the game not working particularly well on release. The second level, specifically, on the seemingly last time Liberty uses her scooter, the pups spawn on to the rooftop together, but seem very broken. They suddenly can’t move near each other, trapped by walls that seem to come between them, and often one pup ends up off screen. This makes the end of the level unplayable, forcing us to restart. We’ve played through this several times, but Robin did not have the patience to continue trying, which is quite a shame, and instead keeps playing the single level over and over.

There are some other issues when it comes to PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls – the counter for treats doesn’t display correctly on the pause menu and on the corner of the screen, it displays as MAX TREATS out of YOUR TREATS (ie, if the level has 600 treats and you have collected 230 treats, it states 600/230) which is a bit confusing for everyone who is playing. We do hope to see some patches on the Xbox version of the game, in hopes that these issues will be fixed and Robin can get beyond level two.

I’ve seen a lot of parents talking about this movie and taking their kids, but I’ve not heard as much about the game x

This is some great info. My daughter is still a bit young for video games but being that we do play them in the house I can see her picking it up in no time.

This sounds like a really fun game for little ones. It’s a shame that it didn’t work properly on some parts though.

I had no idea there’s a Paw Patrol movie or video game! My boys used to LOVE paw patrol. I bet they would still enjoy the movie even though they’ve grown out of it a bit. And they are always up for a new game.
