Going to the Pinecrest Diner while in San Francisco for work, is something that basically every person in the area, going to GDC, does. The diner is open 24 hours, making it perfect for the first day you wake up, jet lagged, wanting both breakfast and lunch items all at once. It reminds me of everything that I love about America. Customising meals, unlimited refills on drinks, and a very simplistic looking place that has everything you want in it. Dann and I went right after we woke up, around 7:30 am local time (2:30 pm in England), so we were both rather hungry.
Buffalo Chicken Wings & Hash Browns

We got an order of buffalo wings to start. I really love buffalo wings and there aren’t many places that do them well in america. These were seasoned before they were cooked, so they had a real depth to them. The sauce was spicy, everything was hot, and it was a great start to our meal. If you like blue cheese, the Pinecrest Diner servers theirs with blue cheese that tastes very much like blue cheese, if that makes sense! I also got a side of hash browns because I absolutely love grill-top hash browns, which I can never find in England.
The Hangover & A Reuben

Every year, Dann goes for The Hangover off the all day breakfast menu at Pinecrest Diner. This is a bunch of hashbrowns, cheese, your choice of eggs (Dann got scrambled) chili, salsa, jalelons, and your choice of bread. He slathers on some hot sauce and eats it all up. There is something super filling about this meal and it’s always a good comfort. I got a reuben, which was well cooked, warm, and had very stretchy cheese. The house-made thousand island dressing was also very good! It came with a delicious pickle (I swear, England doesn’t do good pickles) and some very well seasoned and cooked fries. It was a very filling sandwich.
Warm Peach Pie
We got some warm peach pie to share, which was very tasty. I had not had peach pie in quite some time – the crust was soft and the peach flavor was very good. I like the little bit of caramel as well, and it came with whipped cream, being a great end to our first meal in America. Pinecrest Diner is always a friendly place. Dann loves the unlimited coffee and the general feel – the staff are always helpful and willing to make changes for you. It’s a staple if you are in the area.
