When we were staying with Abbey Holidays at The Highland Club in Loch Ness, we really wanted to see the Highland Cows. By “we”, I do primarily mean me, I think. Growing up, I had a cow. I lived in the countryside. I really do like cows! And these long-haired cows with their horns were very new to me, so I really wanted to see one and pet one in real life. I was pretty confused that we didn’t see any driving up to Loch Ness, so when we set out to the Redburn Cafe & Gift Shop, as they have cows on their property, I was very excited.

Upon entering Redburn Cafe & Gift Shop, we were surprised it’s just a quaint little building, with a dog out the front. It’s absolutely adorable. Inside there are a bunch of little gifts you can buy, but these are quite high quality gifts. Thinks like handmade tiles, metal sculptures of cows, lamps. All of them would make lovely gifts. Let’s dive into what we had for lunch;
Venison Pie

Dann and I sometimes look at a menu and want to get the exact same food. We just like the same things. With that in mind and looking at the specials boards dotted around, we both picked a locally sourced venison pie with wine gravy, chips and peas. This was absolutely delicious. The venison was tender and well cooked, the gravy was very rich. Our pie had bacon, mushrooms and carrots in it, which paired well. The chips were perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside. Peas were good too. It’s a simple lunch done well. They had a lovely selection of pastries, including a very delicious looking apple pie with caramel on top, but we were both just too full from such a filling lunch to get dessert.
Highland Cows

Now, one of the reasons we chose to go to the Redburn Cafe & Gift Shop was for the highland cows. Just across the road, you can see tons of brilliant highland cows. They are beautiful. We got some feed for £1 a bag, a real steal, and then went over to feed the cows. When we went near them, they were all in the middle of their field resting. As per the staff at Redburn Cafe, we shook the bag and called to them, and they suddenly got up and came right over. These cows are gentle and eat right from your hand. Going for the cows alone is well worth it, however, the food is really nice too. It’s a perfect way to have a lovely and memorable lunch.
What a fun place! I love that the cows come right up to you. I love it!
Ahhh! You had me at hand feeding fluffy cows! This is the place to be, for sure. The food looks really good, too.
