Eating with a View at Schonbrunn Gloriette

When it comes to beautiful cafes to eat at in Austria, but the Schonbrunn Gloriette is one that feels just breath-taking. I think, looking at the building, I didn’t realize it was even a cafe at all, but it was! This building is a massive arch, with tons of arches at either side, with a small building in the middle that holds the cafe. It overlooks a fantastic view of Vienna, which is also stunning, along with the gardens and castle in front of it. We loved the little walk from the tram to this cafe, as it was so beautiful, and such a lovely morning walk.

Once we entered the Schonbrunn Gloriette, we took a seat at a booth that had a window view of the castle below. It was simply magical. There was a person playing the piano, then playing some brace pipes afterwards, which added to this magic! Dann and I had quite a few mornings of only sweet treats, and now were interested in trying something savory, so that’s what we did! I am going to be honest. I am not sure what all of the cakes we ordered and tried were, as these were picked out by our tour guides for us to try.

Three Lovely Cakes

We looked at the cakes in the cake display and selected three to try! The first one is a very creamy, sort of angel-cake on top, with bits of fruit in the middle. This was subtle, the cream was much thicker than I would have expected, and everything tasted delicious. I really enjoyed this one so much! The middle cake was more of a mousse cake, with lots of cream all in it, and had a slight nutty flavor to it. I picked the raspberry mango cake, which had a raspberry jelly layer, a mango jelly topping, and mango fluffy mousse in it – packed with a fruity flavor that I very much enjoyed. I do not remember the names of these cakes, but they were very yummy to eat.

Salmon Potato Pancake and Goulash Soup

For some savory food, Dann ordered this smoked salmon and potato pancake dish. The potato pancake was interesting – it wasn’t hot, but was a neat texture and went well with the pile of smoked salmon. The salad had a very good amount of creamy dressing, and Dann was happy to have some vegetables as we had not been eating many vegetables on our trip. I got the goulash soup, which was a meat and vegetable soup that tasted absolutely delicious! The bread that came with it was soft and fun to dip (but did not come with butter). I very much loved my soup and all of the small, square vegetables that matched the square cuts of meat. It was SO good.

Cheese Dumplings

On the menu at Schonbrunn Gloriette, in English, this was called Cheese Dumpling. I had no idea if Cheese Dumpling would be a savory or a sweet treat, but found that it is in fact a sweet treat! The dumplings are like way more chewy cheese cake bites, which are coated in breadcrumbs and fried. It came in a beautiful strawberry sauce, with whipped cream and a little bit of strawberry on top. It’s a fun, though dense, dessert that looked absolutely like a birthday party!

The grounds around Schonbrunn Gloriette

After having our massive breakfast, we all went for a big walk around the grounds. It’s absolutely stunning in Schonbrunn. There is a big hill, that you are eating on top of, and we walked down it towards the main building. On one of the side paths, there is a fake ruins that was built to be realistic, but really isn’t, as the previous owner of the building wanted to add more interest in it, so h aving those ruins did that. I found this to be extremely silly in a concept! We did a big walk around, which feels perfect after such a fantastic breakfast.
