Sharing Barbie with a new generation

[Ad- gifted products] With the Barbie Movie coming out, I am sure you have seen the large number of Barbie marketing that has been out there. I feel like everyone in my generation has memories of playing with Barbie. I had a giant wooden Barbie house, a Barbie toddler jeep, plenty of Barbie toys… it was just one of those things I feel like everyone plays with! In the last few years, we have purchased Robin a few of the mermaid Barbie dolls, as she loves playing with Barbie in water, but she didn’t seem to have much interest in Barbie – until this new movie started being advertised.

Suddenly, Robin became obsessed with Barbie, super excited to pick out a Barbie outfit and to get some new Barbies to play with along with the ones we have. At the moment, there is an overwhelming amount of Barbie toys out there – that it might be hard to find what your child might want best. Robin thought about the massive Barbie dream house – a very classic Barbie toy, but decided to get a Barbie Campervan, as it had a water feature, a massive slide, and lots of adventure items! We had gone Glamping in the last year, and I feel that that memory is one that she wanted to re-create in the Barbie world – though we totally didn’t have a massive water slide above our camper!

Putting together the Barbie Campervan set was quite easy – there were some stickers that needed to be put on and some parts that needed to be snapped together, but once everything was opened Robin was playing with it all! This set doesn’t come with any dolls, but does come with a few pets, lots of camping stuff like plates, flash lights, cameras and more, and the whole camper is like a massive house. Robin picked out tons of Barbie Dolls for this new house; another mermaid with a colorful tail, a Birthday Party Barbie in a beautiful pink dress, two travel Barbies with one traveling to somewhere warm and the other to a festival, a hair Barbie that I remember having a less modern one, with tons of hair accessories. She even got a surprise Barbie which was dressed as a monkey, with loads of reveals. There are just so many different Barbies out there.

Along with a bundle of Barbie Dolls to play in her new Campervan playset, Robin also got a smaller playset that feels like it matches one of the core ways to play with Barbie. Robin got a hair styling playset, with a Barbie who’s hair changes color when you add cold water to it. A big part of playing with Barbie is playing with their hair, and Robin really enjoyed setting up this playset and making videos of the Barbie at the hair salon. This was extremely cute and I really enjoyed watching back the videos, where Robin plays the hair stylist and Barbie plays the role of the customer.

There is far more than just playsets and Barbie dolls. When I was her age, I had a Barbie Boombox that played little cassettes with music on them. There are a few different, more modern versions of these, but Robin picked out the Barbie Karaoke machine. This machine is really easy to set up, works on charging instead of batteries, and uses bluetooth to play music. The lights are really fun to watch flash and the microphone is easy to switch on and use. There are a few settings on the top, one of which allows echo which Robin thought was super fun. I feel this will work so well this summer as an outdoor radio for when our girls play on the trampoline, and the added microphone bright more fun there! Robin also picked out the Barbie Guitar, which plays a bunch of songs along with playing loud noises when strumming, and lights up. Robin has been taking guitar lessons, so this did feel like an obvious choice for her.

There is so much joy in seeing your child play with the same, nostalgic toys that you use to play with, and it’s been really fun to watch Robin get so interested in Barbie and start to really enjoy this classic toy. We’ve now seen the Barbie movie, which was so much fun, and she has tons of Barbie outfits to dress up as for the summer!

It’s adorable how she wants to re-create the glamping experience in the Barbie world, even adding her unique touch with a massive water slide above the camper! I had a lot of barbies when I was younger too. It was never something my daughter was into, instead she loves Monster High dolls. (I wish I had them when I was younger!). It is fun that your daughter has a new love for Barbie & that she has so many dolls to be able to select from.

These are so adorable. It is indeed so much joy to see kids play same things as when we were kids because nowadays generations are changing. Kids here just want to saty indoors and play games.

My kids were never into Barbies, but we had some and it would have been nice to see them use some imaginative play. I always enjoyed Barbies, even as a teen / adult babysitter.

How lovely to see Barbie making the headlines again after so many years. Hope the film and merchandise all does really well. Little ones love all things Barbie and, actually, quite a few who are not so little, too!.
