[Ad- gifted product] It is rare that a tabletop game will work for everyone in our family – from adults to young ones, but sometimes we do hit the mark with games that just gel with everyone. Six Second Scribble is a new game from Gamely, that is rated for ages 8 and above, but works with all of us (even Robin who is 5!) which has been a big delight! It’s a simple concept and a quick to play game, so it’s very easy for everyone to get involved.
Six Second Scribble is pretty wacky – basically each person is given a card that they cannot show to others. This card has a category and a list of ten objects on it. This category can be things like vegetables, items that start with the letter B, hot things, etc. You then have one minute to draw as many of these things as you can, but you cannot write what they are or use any numbers. Once the timer is up, you get to write your category on the top of your paper, then you must pass your paper to the left. That person then has a minute to guess what the pictures each mean. This works very well if you are playing within the age group, however, as we had a younger player, we added some house rules.
For Robin, I read her the card she had, quietly, before the start of the one minute timer. She then drew as many as she could, which resulted in about three drawings – maybe five if the theme was good for her, before the time was up. We found that giving her more time didn’t help too much, so instead we changed the passing order. Instead of passing once to the left and then that person filling in the card, we passed once to the left, had that person guess on all of the cards, then passed again so the next person had a guess. We did this until most cards had at least one guess per picture – with some cards having several guesses per picture depending on who guessed what.
Either way, you then go into the scoring phase, where the person who drew the pictures says if the guess is correct or wrong. If it is wrong, nobody gets a point. If it is correct, the person who drew it and the person who guessed it both get a point. The scoring is always close, which is quite nice for everyone playing, with a few tied winners for us. Six Second Scribble has everything you need for the game – a bunch of little pencils, tiny bits of paper, and plenty of cards. There is even some conversation warm up cards if you are playing with a new group! When it comes to the category cards, there are ones that are labelled as being more easy, for younger kids, and others being more challenging, if you want to play the game with teens or adults. The rounds only last around 10 to 15 minutes, so this game is perfect for younger children and older children, as it really keeps everyone’s attention.
We ended playing quite a few rounds on our first time with Six Second Scribbles, with the children asking to play it again the very next night. If that’s not a seal of approval, I really don’t know what is!
My kids would love this. I love to do art and believe it helps us to use creative outlets as often as possible. Thanks for sharing!
It is such a fun little game, especially if kids spend a lot of time trying to make designs perfect – this is a great exercise.
My kids love to draw, so this would be the perfect game for them to play. I will look into this for Christmas.
