[Ad- gifted product] When it comes to conversations about how you are feeling, both children and adults seem to struggle to open up. To help facilitate the conversation, Sockie Stars is here – which is a book along with three pairs of socks that can help start conversations with your little one. Sockie Stars is a set of three pairs of socks that represent three sockie characters within their story book.
This book works as a good bedtime story, telling the tale of three different sockie stars – Coco is a brave sock who tries something new by going into the whirlpool (washing machine) and finding that they actually had a really good time. There is a great moral to this sweet story – sometimes we should be brave and try new things, as you can actually find that you might even like the fun thing. The next sock in our story is Sockie, the calm socks, who has lost their match. Instead of freaking out or hiding forever, this sock takes a few deep breaths – teaching simple breathing techniques, to calm down and think about the situation. Our last sockie star, Todd, is an odd sock. Todd was very happy with being a odd sock, though he did hid it at the back of the drawer. One day, another odd sock comes into the drawer, and this sock is sad that they don’t have a match, but Todd comforts them and tells them it’s okay, and through being friends, they end up being odd socks together.
All of these stories are quite inspiring and helpful when it comes to the feelings that people have. When your child chooses one of these socks, you can talk to them about their feelings and why they picked them. The physical socks also come with capes – which appear on the socks in the story when they process their feelings. Robin really loved the stories and found the socks to be such cool characters. Her favorites seem to be Coco, because she always wants to be brave and Sockie, because she feels she could be a bit more calm. She really loves the capes on them and running around to make the cape fly!
The capes are Velcro, but one cape does specifically stick onto one sock, which is a bit weird in my opinion. I kinda wish they all were the same joining so there was a bit less faff. We have put our Sockie Heroes in the washing machine and they have come out fine, though we do tuck the cape into the sock itself, so that it stays safe, if we do need to wash the cape. (Sometimes, we skip washing the cape as it doesn’t get as dirty as easily).
Along with the story and the socks themselves, there is a card that goes along with the different moods, which can help start the conversation with your child on why they picked that pair of socks and how they feel about it. This is a good size and colorful, which can fit perfectly on top of a dresser. If you are struggling with starting conversations with your child, this is a really helpful tool. Overall, we are very excited and happy with Sockie Stars. It’s great to have a book with such good morals that can further connect and stick in a child’s mind through the socks. The design of the socks are simple, colorful, vibrant and just fun! I love the concept of the little caps and it brings enough interest to keep children captivated.
