Eating Italian Food at Sophia Loren Restaurant

Is it smart to get Italian food right near the Doumo in Milan? Probably not. It’s most likely going to be more expensive than anywhere else, and it might not even taste that good. With that in mind, we did really want to have a more traditional lunch and didn’t want to spend a lot of time walking, so we went to Sophia Loren Restaurant. Sophia Loren is a film star, something I didn’t realize until we were seated and I read the menu, which has a bunch of text about how she wanted to open an Italian restaurant because she loves food. But, it’s really the taste of the food that matters.

Parmigiana Di Melanzane

For our starter, Dann and I decided to split the Parmigiana Di Melanzane, which was really my favorite thing that I ate at lunch. There wasn’t a huge eggplant taste to it, but it was cheesy and the sauce was very good. I liked the general temperature of it as well. They also brought over some table bread, along with oil and balsamic, so we dipped bread in the oil mixture and in the sauce in this – great for mopping up! Dann wasn’t super hungry, but enjoyed the bits of this that he had.

Rib-Eye Pascolo Argentino & Lasagna All’emiliana Con Ragu Di Manzo

Our mains had a lot of words to describe some pretty simple dishes. Dann got the rib-eye, which was cooked rare and came with a sauce and potatoes. All of this looked perfectly cooked and had a lot of color, but Dann felt there wasn’t a lot of actual flavor in any of it. It looked very good, the cook was very good, but it was lacking some actual taste. I had the lasagna at Sophia Loren Restaurant, which was also lacking some depth of flavor. I mean, it was an ok lasagna, but the sauce wasn’t so out of this world and the lasagna pasta was very mushy, which I get is normal in a lasagna, but this felt extremely mushy even for me.

Sophia Loren Restaurant is very expensive for what it is, but it’s what you would expect in the location. You cannot even get tap water, you’ll have to pay for bottled. The restaurant itself is massive, so there seems to always be a place to sit, and the walls are decorated with pictures of the actor that created the place.

That’s a shame that you weren’t bowled over by the taste, esp when you’re spending a lot. Hopefully you’ll find some better places to grab some authentic Italian food x
