Seeing it all in Spy Guy Fantasy

[Ad- gifted products] I feel like Spy Guy Fantasy is the perfect version of Spy Guy for our family. We took this tabletop game to our bi-weekly Geek Retreat board game night, where we spread it out onto the table. Amelia and Robin commented on how our board games have been on the longer side physically lately, taking up more and more of the table. This game was another that took up a big spread, with each of us sitting around it.

Spy Guy Fantasy, conceptually, is actually very simple. Everyone is working together to steal the Dragon’s treasure and then make it back to the city! How this is done, however, requires a lot of noticing and a bit of luck. One player turns over a card for a deck. On this card, there is an image of an object, which can be found multiple times within the large picture. The fantasy version of Spy Guy feels like a scene from a Dungeons and Dragon’s inspired campaign, so everyone was quite interested in it! Potions, arrows, D20 dice, there were so many little references and items to find. If you find the item on the card, you need to place down a little spy glass onto it.

A timer ticks down, and when it runs out, you need to stop searching and count how many you all found together. That is the number of spaces your guy then moves around the board. Then, it’s the dragon’s turn. If you have not stolen the treasure, the dragon moves one space. If you have stolen the treasure, you must move the dragon the number of wings that are shown on the card. This is sort of balanced by the number of times the item appears on the board! The more people you have playing Spy Guy Fantasy, the easier it is to find the items and play.

All four of us really enjoyed searching and playing eye-spy together with Spy Guy Fantasy! There are tons of different cards in the deck, which allows a lot of replays without actually having to look for the same items. The picture is very busy and all slots in well, making for a great game. Though we did move our character along the path based on how many we found, the dragon had short cuts, which kept everything interesting as the dragon was able to catch up to our guy quickly – we felt the rush! Spy Guy Fantasy is fantastic for those who are a fan of eye-spy style games.
