Stomp the Plank – Good Balance is Rewarded

[Ad- gifted product] Stomp the Plank is one of those board games that you take out of the box, realize that you need to use the box, and are instantly impressed. All of the pieces; the boat, planks, and the characters, are absolutely fantastic! It’s a very easy game to learn, but difficult to master when it comes to the luck aspect of the game. It’s one of those push your luck style games, this time with a story about stealing treasure from a Pirate!

Stomp the Plank first has you setting up the box, which is a giant boat. Hanging off the boat, there are up to four planks. These planks are one per person, with the people playing putting their elephant character at the start, as if they might walk off the plank. The planks cling to the box through magnets, so they aren’t going to fall of when the table wobbles – a very smart decision! Once the ship is set up, it’s time to start the game. On your turn, you will turn over treasure cards and place them onto the separate board next to you. Above each card placement is what will happen if you fold and take the loot, however if you keep going and you get two of the same treasures, you will lose and have to move your Elephant closer to the end of your plank. If you do decide to stop and have had two or more cards on the treasure board, everyone else will be forced to put the number of wooden tokens above the last placed card at the end of their planks, making them heavier.

Adding more wood is more dangerous, as their entire plank could topple over! It’s a bit of a high risk, high reward game, and one that Robin quickly learned wasn’t best to just risk it all. You see, if you can get all of the different treasure items out in one go, you can win the game, but it’s basically impossible, so you are more likely to win by just waiting it out and making good decisions. We played Stomp the Plank at our local Geek Retreat, where it drew some attention from others there, who clearly were impressed with the setup.

That’s so cool that you use the box in play, and super clever about the magnets. Sounds like a fun game, although I’m not sure how much I’d risk haha x
