Looking Over the City at A’Dam Lookout

When we were at the train station in Amsterdam, hanging out just outside the Amsterdam Central airport, I saw the giant swings on top of a building. Casually, I said to Dann “do you think that is swings?” and he said “oh yes. I would never do that” but I knew, I would totally do that. I then made it my mission to do that. The A’Dam Lookout is a very touristy, very interesting venue with beautiful views of the main city, which you can book tickets to view during the daytime, sunset, or evening. We booked going in one of the evenings, right after sunset, which was fantastic.

Lovely Breakfast at Bakers and Roasters

We love food, and as I have been cutting down on eating meat, I did went to try out some more vegan dishes. Dann suggested Bakers and Roasters, which was on our way to ARTIS Zoo, and it felt like the perfect fit. The whole place had a sort of hipster cafe vibe, with someone welcoming us and seating us as soon as we arrived. The place was half full of people chatting and eating. They did have a display case of freshly made pastries and a menu of coffees, but we came for food.

Taking a Canal Tour with Rederij Plas

When in the centre of Amsterdam, there are a whole line of different canal tours that you can choose from. Some have themes (primarily alcohol), some do not have any prices listed and you need to use a QR code, and others are just set up ready to take you out on the water. We specifically picked an un-themed tour that had a price listed, called Rederij Plas, which felt like one of the older canal tours on this side of the water.

Experiencing AMAZE and all of it’s Wonder

Dann and I had not been to Amsterdam together before and did have a few different boxes to tick. One thing we really enjoy going to are immersive experiences. Molly and Husky, two of our friends, recommended AMAZE to us – as they went last time they visited and really enjoyed it. So, of course, we booked it up! We did add on the cocktail to our tickets, which does make their signature cocktail half price, if you are interested in that sort of thing! We then arrived for our timeslot, put our items in the free-to-use lockers, and waited in the lounge for our times. We were given some AMAZE tokens, which indicate which group you are in. It’s worth noting we went on a Wednesday morning, so the group sizes were on the small side.

Seeing Chocolate Bars Made at Tony’s Chocolonely Superstore

Tony’s Chocolonely Superstore it tucked away in a side alley, towards the centre of Amsterdam, with a little sign pointing you into the doorway. It’s underground, and can easily be missed, but is a very interesting store to actually visit! When going in, you are presented with a video that talks about the superstore and mission behind Tony’s Chocolate, which is ethically sourced. The company itself works hard at being at ending the exploitation that happens within the chocolate industry, while putting human rights at the centre of their business. It’s been a brand that I have been aware of for quite some time!
