Eating Authentic Ramen at Tokyo Ramen Takeichi

Whenever we travel to any country for Pokemon Go, it’s likely that our friends Molly and Husky are there. And if they are there, they always recommend the best ramen places! Husky, like me and Dann, loves ramen – so he hunts out different places and tries them all. Tokyo Ramen Takeichi seems to be a franchise, with a few different locations, but we went to the one in Amsterdam! This chain started in Japan, known for it’s heathy ramens, and has expanded into Europe over the years.

Seeing Animals Close up at ARTIS Zoo

Dann and I both very much enjoy going to a zoo, with or without our children. While in Amsterdam, we decided to check out ARTIS Zoo, which is a fairly large zoo just outside the city centre. There actually is much more than just a zoo in this venue; you can also purchase tickets to the attached Museum or go inside the cafe, planetarium, aquarium (though this was under construction at the time of our visit) or go inside one of their many animal houses like their indoor bird houses or monkey houses. And, to be honest, Dann and I agreed this was the best zoo we have every been to.

Walking Around the Beautiful Flowers at De Hortus

Dann and I love walking around flower gardens, taking pictures of the different flowers and just hanging out with each other. Botanical gardens feel like such a nice way to slow down, so one afternoon while in Amsterdam, we figured we’d head over to De Hortus, which we saw on our canal tour. This huge botanical garden has a large outdoor area, which is where we started. There are a few different trails and maps for different walks, all featured just inside the entrance. There is also a meeting point for guided tours, which happen during specific events.

All You Can Eat at GAJA Korean BBQ

When looking for fun places to eat in Amsterdam, our tour guide on a canal tour recommended two places, one of which being GAJA Korean BBQ. At the time, we did not know it was an all you can eat BBQ joint, but were very excited to discover this! You can either order off the standard menu or you can choose the all you can eat option, which does only allow one dessert per person and doesn’t include drinks. That’s what we ended up going with. There is a two hour eating limit and everything is ordered through scanning a QR code, where you can also allow others from your table to join the order, and you can see who orders what. If you aren’t familiar with Korean BBQ, you are able to cook everything in front of yourselves.

Seeing Historical Ships at Museumhaven Amsterdam

While exploring around the NEMO Museum in Amsterdam, if you walk towards the back like Dann and I did, you will come across a bunch of different historical ships. This is actually Museumhaven Amsterdam – which is a museum harbor of the Amsterdam Museum Harbor Association. There are over 20 historical vessels there, covering a bunch of different boat types, all moored for people to have a look at.
