The Cat Mitt Game challenges you to act like a cat

[Ad- gifted product] We have played a lot of board games in our time. Every other Monday, as a part of girls night, we go to our local Geek Retreat and play a board game together as a family while enjoying milkshakes. There aren’t a lot of card games or board games that feel absolutely 100 percent unique and don’t remind us of something else. The Cat Mitt Game, however, is unlike anything we have every placed in our lives.

Now, we do have cats. We have a toy very similar to the toy used in the game but mouse shaped. We’ve seen our cats bat around this toy to get treats out of it, then fight over the treats that have fallen. I’ve never looked at this cat toy and thought “oh wow, that would make a good board game” but here we are. And it did in fact make for a good board game. In The Cat Mitt Game, one player puts on two thin oven gloves, giving them a good cat-paw experience. You will then need to bat around a treat ball full of dice, in an attempt to get the die to come out. If a die falls out, you then need to pat it over to your cat mouth counter and make sure it’s in the right slot with the right side up.

This is all extremely challenging to do with everyone watching you and with the cat gloves on! The next player in line will be rolling two dice while this happens, looking to roll a double Meow, which will force you to stop, take off the gloves, and pass it along to them. It’s chaotic, it’s cat themed, and it’s a lot of fun. If you do have a die in the right place in your tracker, it’s locked in, which means that nobody can steal it, but otherwise they can. A lot of the time I was able to get a treat out right as Dann (who was next) rolled Meow Meow and then was able to put the treat in his counter. Amelia was also big on stealing treats from others once they were out, where as Robin was very good at getting treats out, at one point getting two treats successfully in her cat counter.

There is something extremely funny and entertaining about The Cat Mitt Game. Almost to the point where it doesn’t matter who has completed their cat counter and who has scored a point. It’s just hilarious watching each player bat about the ball and become a cat, while another frantically rolls dice. I have no idea how this idea came about, but it’s a fantastically unique one and I am happy to have this game on my board game shelf.

I think I would be awful at this as I have no coordination 😂 but we have cats as well and it would be happy to act and try to see it like them x

That sounds like such a fun tradition! It’s always exciting when you find a game that feels fresh and different from everything else you’ve played!
