Dinner out at The Cock Helsinki

[Ad- gifted experience] While in Helsinki for a work event, we went out to a celebratory dinner to celebrate the end of a fantastic event and a promotion I got within the company! Picking something that sounded and felt like it could be British, we ended up at The Cock. This restaurant is very welcome to people just visiting the area and serves a fun menu with a lot of familiar and classic food. Dann and I both got different starters and mains, for once, off of a set menu that the entire team ordered from. The venue felt cozy, like an upscale pub, and the staff were fantastic.

Beetroot Salad & Beef Tartar

I got the beetroot salad that had an entire burrata with a very nice oil, beet pure, roasted beets and a bit of crusty grilled bread. It was an absolutely massive starter with a lot of good flavor to it! I almost wished there was some more bread as there was a lot of cheese. Dann got the Beef Tartar, which is raw beef with an entire egg yolk. This felt like it was missing crackers or some sort of bread to break through it, but was very well seasoned and well prepared.

Mushroom Risotto & Beef Burger

I got the mushroom risotto, which was the sort of vegetarian option. The entire risotto was very, very rich and filling. There were pickled mushrooms on the top, which did a good job of cutting through the creamy taste of everything else, but the entire thing was pretty one note. I sort of wish there was something else in the risotto, but it was very filling and well-prepared. The beef burger had a delicious-sounding description and was a very well-cooked burger with lots of fixings! There was a ton of mayo on it though. Dann enjoyed the burger and I pinched some of his fries which were well-seasoned.

Creme Brulee

Dann and I both picked Creme Brulee for dessert. The top was perfectly caramelized, with a good amount of sugar. It’s a sweet dessert, but as expected. This would have benefited from some fruit, but as we were pretty full, it was a nice sweet ending to the dinner. I quite enjoyed my selection and the amount of food that I ate at The Cock.

Fruity Cocktails

I tried two different cocktails at The Cock, my favorite being a cherry drink that was sweet and delicious! They had a drink made with a local type of berry that I had never heard of before, which came with a sprig of pine tree, which was interesting. I think the smell of the pine tree was a bit much for me, which took away from the drink, but it was interesting to try out! Overall, the staff were fantastic and we had a great time celebrating at The Cock.

Sounds like a lovely restaurant, I’d definitely have thought from the name that it was somewhere in the UK. The creme brûlée looks so good x

The mushroom risotto and burger both seem delicious, and those fries must have been amazing if you couldn’t resist stealing a few.
