A friend of mine said I should go to The Toaster and try their hashbrown nachos when I spoke about making weird nacho food for Kai. I had not heard of the place and though I am not a big brunch or breakfast fan, while Kai and Robin were at school (and Amelia still on holiday from her school), we wanted to go out somewhere new. The Toaster came to mind, so we all headed out to see what the food was going to be like. To our surprise, it was probably the best brunch I am ever going to have in my life.
Chia Latte
Dann and I both got Chai Lattes, mine with soy drink and Dann’s with oat drink. This was fantastic – I really loved the extra mile they went with decorating. It came with a little biscuit, which they offered a vegan one instead, but we aren’t vegan so we got the normal ones. Amelia got a coke, which is pretty default. They had a good selection of teas and lots of hot chocolate toppers, along with some seasonal drinks as well.
Pesto and Tomato Croffle and Banana Creme Brulee Croffle
When we saw the Croffle menu, we were all quite curious. So, Dann picked out the Pesto and Tomato Croffle with cheddar cheese, which is a seasonal item, and I picked out the Banana Creme Brulee Croffle which is on their Croffle menu. Croffles, if you didn’t know, are croissants that have been cooked in a waffle maker. They are flaky and delicious! The pesto croffle was very savory – it had a very decent pesto and a slightly sweet balsamic glaze. The Banana Creme Brulee croffle was decadent! The sugar was perfectly caramelized. It came with clotted cream, which did a fantastic job of cutting through the sweet caramel and all of the sugar, and some chai seeds which added a bit of texture.
Vegan Full English and Sausage & Bacon Sandwich
For her main at The Toaster, Amelia picked out the sausage and bacon sandwich, though she was worried that it might be too small so we decided the croffles and nachos would be for the table. They had a variety of sauces and Amelia picked BBQ, which I was personally surprised they had. The sandwich had very soft bread and was quite big. There was plenty of perfectly cooked sausage and crispy bacon too. Dann always says you can tell a lot about a place from the English Breakfast, and he went for a vegan one as we wanted the avocado. The sausage ground wasn’t the best, but the mushrooms were really well seasoned and full of flavor. The tomatoes were cooked well, the beans were – well – beans. The avocado hit the spot! He also had a hashbrown on his plate, hidden behind those beans, which was very well salted with rosemary.
Hashbrown Nachos and Garlic Mushrooms on Toast
We did come here to try the Hashbrown Nachos, so of course we ordered them. They were large hashbrowns cut in half, covered in cheddar cheese, with avocado smash, salsa and sour cream. We got the jalapenos on the side, as Amelia doesn’t like spicy things. The nachos are fantastic; crispy, well seasoned, delicious. It’s such a good treat! I also got a small portion of the garlic mushrooms on toast, as I knew I would be eating a lot of the other stuff. These mushrooms were so well seasoned, so garlicy, Amelia tried them and loved them as well. You can pick your choice of bread and I went for sourdough. It was a great expereince.
We all really liked The Toaster, despite not being breakfast people. The staff there were very kind and explained all of the options when it came to sauces and breads. They were quite quick with the food too! Everything felt beautifully presented and delicious. The place was also very well decorated – it’s clear they change out the decorations seasonally as it matches the season that you are in. We went in November, where there was tons of autumn stuff dotted about. It’s a cozy place and perfect for brunch. As we had walked in, someone was at the counter saying it was the best brunch they’d ever had, and I 100 percent agree.
Yessss to Chai latte, I love it…I haven’t had it for a while now, this weekend for sure…The toaster is awesome….
Oh, I love it so much! The food looks so good, and the name is adorable. I’d go there every day.
Everything looks so good! I love that tea, and the banana chaffles really speak to me.
What a cute breakfast/brunch place. I haven’t heard of croffles before, but I would be keen to try them.
