[Ad- gifted product] We have been covering a lot of tabletop games on this blog lately, and that’s partially because it’s Christmastime, and everyone has a board game. Another reason is because on Mondays, we have girls night, which starts off with a board game or tabletop game while Kai starts his DnD, before we head home to get on with our evening. This time, we played This or That, which is a pretty fast action card game that’s very simple to play.
There is a massive deck of cards, which all of questions that have two answers. They could be like; which is larger: The surface area of Jupiter or the combined surface area of Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars?. Each card actually has two questions, with the correct question circled and often some extra bits of information in red. These trivia questions are a bit hard to work out, especially under pressure, making this more of a guessing game and quickly coming up with replies.
One team will read out the question on the card, and the other team will tilt the box to show if they picked This or That. One side of the card has the color behind the word This while the other has the color behind the word That. There is meant to be a timer as well, which you could probably set on your phone, but as we were playing with young ones, we just allowed them to think about it and not have the added pressure of a ticking timer. This or That is obviously very simple to understand and play, and we did find it fun, however the game itself could have come with a way to track score (as there are two questions per card).
We found the use of the box to be really fun, but from the back of the box it was easy to get confused with which side was this or that, depending on the color and the order that it was said. There were also some cards that had additional information that conflicted, but otherwise, I actually did remember some of the trivia and both Robin and Amelia quite enjoyed their time playing it. The game has no definite end, so we just were done with it when we lost interest. This game can be played as a two player game, or in teams really, so it works well for any amount of people.
We have this game, and like yourself we stopped playing when we had enough of it. It is a fun game once you get into playing it
