No two cats are alike. We have two little fur babies; Pancake and Pesto. Pancake never goes outside. He’s basically afraid of the outdoors. The only times he steps foot into the grass is either with a human on a leash or to scream at Pesto for going out. Pesto, on the other hand, has some sort of vendetta against another cat who seems to have no owner and instead lives wild around our area. This cat and Pesto have been found fighting when Pesto did escape for a few hours, which was a massive concern.
Obviously, we do try to keep our cats as indoor cats, with them only going out on leashes and with supervision. There are many reasons for this; we do not want our cats to affect the ecosystem, we do not want them to get hurt or lost, and we do not want anyone else taking them in as both of our cats are purebreds. So, as Pesto is so fast, we decided to pick up the Tractive GPS Cat Tracker. This is a collar with a tracker on it, as well as a companion app.
Does Tractive GPS Cat Tracker always track?
Now, it is worth mentioning that you will need to purchase a year long subscription for the Tractive GPS tracker app, which will then allow you to monitor and control the app itself. This app has a lot of information in it; you can turn on tracking at anytime, which will show where the tracker is, how many calories your cat has burned today, how long your cat has been active or rested, what other cats in the area have the app and have been running around. There is just a lot of information! There is also the option to put out a zone that you are allowing your pet to be in. If your pet then leaves this zone, you will get a notification.
Will my cat be able to wear the Tractive GPS tracker comfortably?
The Tractive GPS Tracker does fit well on Pesto with the included collar, that is until he realized how to pull the collar apart. Then, he’d take off the collar and present it to us, as if it was a dead bird, or leave it in the middle of the kitchen. As this tracker cannot come off of the collar, you will need to ensure that your cat cannot get it off. It’s a really simple pushing together clasp, which just feels not very good.
What happens when my cat escapes?
Pesto has escaped with his tracker on, which was very interesting. Not only could I accurately see where he was using the app, but I could also use the app to turn on a light on his collar for when he was hiding in bushes or in the dark. The most useful thing, for me, was actually the alarm that you can turn on from the app, bringing a loud noise out of Pesto’s collar, which made it really easy to figure out exactly where he was and collect him. It’s been super useful in that way, but we do need to ensure the collar is on him every day.
How long does the battery last in the Tractive GPS Tracker?
This does depend on if you are having the tracker track all of the time or if you are just checking in here and there. On average, for us, we need to recharge the battery once a week. It’s easy to pull the battery off and plug it into the included USB charger. This is something we do at night, when the house is all locked up and nobody is using any doors. We then put the collar back on him in the morning, to ensure that it is on before anyone uses any of the doors.
My only real complaint about the Tractive GPS Cat Tracker is literally that the collar is so easy for pets to take off, that it feels like they could if they did get out. Luckily, Pesto is too busy chasing birds and trying to find his enemy when he gets out, so he doesn’t actually focus on his collar.

This tractive GPS cat tracker sounds good. Indeed will help in tracing cats in case they are lost or escape.
It really does!
I am getting one for sure. I have a naughty cat that often goes to my neighbor’s house and every time he does i freak out.
I also freak out when Pesto gets out!! This has really helped.
What a great idea! My friend’s cat always goes wondering so I will let her know about this. Perrrrrfect for peace of mind!
It is such a smart product!
These sound great if you have indoor cats or have a cat that likes to wander off. Our cat will only go in our garden, as she is quite timid.
You are quite lucky then! We were with Pancake but Pesto is a totally different beast.
I have thought about getting GPS trackers for my dogs even though I have a fenced yard. If I had a cat, I would definitely got one!
They do make them for dogs as well!
Our kittens haven’t yet been outside but we’re hoping to take them out on leashes soon. A bit like yours they’ll mainly be indoor cats but I do really want a GPS tracker for peace of mind so this looks great x
It does provide a lot of peace of mind.
This sounds like a really useful piece of kit for pet owners whose animals roam. The light and alarm are genius!
They are super clever.
I have a 3-month-old kitten and I think I will be needing this tracker. He always find a way to escape.
Kittens are sneaky!!
Your cats are absolutely adorable! I think this is a great idea for all cat owners to get…So many times my neighbor’s cat has wandered off and it’s important to keep them safe.
It is so important!
I don’t personally own a cat, but this looks like a great gift to give one of my friends. She loves her cat and he always wanders out at night.
It can be scary when your cat wanders out!
Pesto looks super cute and what a wonderful gps tracked gadget to keep your cat safe. I do like that there is an app available to help you monitor it easier
The app is really helpful!
