[Ad- gifted product] When it comes to silly toys, we have tried our fair share. However, Windy Knickers is probably the silliest we have seen in a while! It takes a really average, every day concept of hanging up laundry and makes it into a fun, spinning around, silly little game. The gameplay itself and set up is extremely easy and if your children are anything like ours, they’ll end up finding other ways to have fun with the toy as well.
Windy Knickers has a pretty easy set up, but you will have to task your children with putting the stickers on for their first use. I didn’t realize they were putting stickers on the dice, so Amelia might have been a little less than perfect placing them on, which does result in some dodgy dice throws! I do wish this was actually just pre-done for us, but the other stickers were fun. Stickers were put on the knickers and bras, giving them each a color. Each player then collects all of their same color, and these are their playing pieces.
The hanging line does need to be set up and batteries need to be placed in the base. The line that connects the hanging part to the ground, for me, was extremely hard to take off once in, which makes me feel like maybe it’s meant to stay together? With that in mind, it no longer fits into the box though! After we had put it all together, we dressed Grandma, who’s a big human character that hangs on the side of the line. Robin made up a bunch of stories on why she was on the line. Her clothing is a little tricky to get together, but once it’s on, you’re good. Then we took turns rolling the die.
Your turn is based on your roll. If you get a cloud you will miss your turn, if you get a rain cloud you can take an item off the line and give it to the next person along. If you get a sun you can place a piece of clothing on the line and if you get the tornado, you need to tap the tornado button. This tornado button is one of the main driving points behind Windy Knickers, as when you press it the entire thing starts spinning. Sometimes it’s fast and for a while, sometimes it’s slow, each time Granny is laughing! If it spins fast enough, clothing might fall off (including the clothing Granny is wearing) which is a very silly experience. Players then need to grab the clothing that’s theirs and dress Granny again, before the dice gets passed to the next player.
Robin and Amelia really loved the bits where Granny spun, as that’s the fun bit of the game. We ended up placing all of the clothing on and hitting tornado, guessing how many would fall off. Then, we stacked all of the clothing inside the middle of the hanger and hit tornado, to see if they’d stay. Though the base idea of the game is fun, it’s also fun to hang stuff up and watch it go flying! Windy Knickers makes for a funny and silly game for all ages.
