Now that spring has begun, I bet you are missing your backyard and wondering how you can improve it for the new year! My grass is currently in need of a cut and my backyard could use some planning, so I have gathered a list of the best ways to bring your garden into the new year and get ready for the summer and spring that will be ahead of you. When it comes to planning, there is never a better time to start then right now, so it’s best to start thinking about how you are going to upgrade that space to better use it in the future and beyond.
Decking
When it comes to refreshing your garden, adding in some decking so that you can create an area for entertaining is always welcomed. It’s great to have a designated area for a BBQ and outdoor furniture. Black composite decking seems to be the most popular colour choice, as it’s dark enough to not show a lot of wear and tear while complementing all of the green outdoors. If you are putting in some new decking, don’t forget to purchase composite decking clips to fit in your new deck with!
Outdoor Lighting
A very easy way to update your garden can just be with lights! There are plenty of different outdoor lights, from ones that can hang on fences, to others that can be stuck into the ground. Finding lights that best fit your garden, and ones that are durable, will be key in placing lights in your garden. I tend to go with hanging lights as they are less likely to be knocked about when the backyard is in use, but you can also line paths with lights to make them look more interesting.
Shade
I am sure you would like to use your yard in the middle of the day, and that’s where shade comes in! Large umbrellas in the middle of tables and awnings attached to your house (if there is room) can be a big help! There are so many different types of awnings now a days, from simple sleek ones that are always providing shade to more hi-tech awnings that can be opened and closed with a switch. Providing shaded areas can ensure that your garden is comfortable at any time of the day. If you have a lot of trees, you can always add some hammocks to your backyard, which are a great place to sit and always are in the shade.
Flower Beds
I love flower beds! There are so many different ways to incorporate flowers into your yard, but it’s very important to define this place and pay attention to the flowers that you are planting. You’ll need to think about how much light they get, how much water, and how much effort you want to put into keeping them alive. There are plenty of flowers that just need watering – very low maintenance – that look just as lovely as those that need constant weeding and care. Finding some flowers that work for you and planting them can make a lovely place to relax.
Maintaining Your Lawn
One of the things I struggle with most is maintaining my backyard. Mowing can be cumbersome and often you might just want to enjoy your yard more than you want to actually spend time trying to take care of it. We have touched upon picking the right flowers for you, so that you don’t need to actually spend a lot of time weeding, but if you also don’t want to mow your lawn, consider robot lawn mowers – just like those robot vacuum cleaners – which can really save a lot of time and energy. There are tons of options when it comes to picking up the best robot lawn mower, if you’d rather let technology help you with your chores!
Shade is always useful for a garden, especially during lockdown when you can only really met outside, so if the weather changes, at least you’ll have some cover
Yes, this is a very good point.
This is awesome too. My Dad loves gardening. Will share this post with him.
I hope he enjoys!
