Apple Crumble is a UK staple any time of the year, normally covered in a bunch of custard before served. In America, we call apple crumble apple crisp, and it’s something my family use to make during the autumn. I worked at an apple orchard during the autumn and would bring back bags of apples for us all to have. Apple sauce was one use for these, but apple crumble was my favorite dessert made. Today, I am sharing my great grandma’s apple crumble recipe with you. It’s a pretty simple one, if I am honest. The notes I was given say to double the recipe as it’s a family favorite.

This dessert is something that very much makes the house smell delicious. I have always enjoyed eating it up, personally, without custard. Sometimes, we use to add a scoop of ice cream if it was freshly out of the oven, to melt over the crisp, which worked slightly like custard does. This specific apple crumble was made for our tabletop group, who then ate it all up, which is why there isn’t a picture of a single slice. They also put custard on top of it, because British people.
