After trying out Lazy Flora’s plant subscription, I wanted to explore other plant-based subscription boxes! Barry’s Cactus Club was so new that it was only taking pre-orders and I wanted to get on board for the first few months. We are now three month’s in, so I figured I would write up how this club has been so far. It’s a very new service, much like Lazy Flora was when I tried it out, so there might be more changes in the future. Each month, you are meant to get one cactus, one card which tells you about the cactus, a tiny pot and then some bonus items!
Month One, Zebra Plant
Our first box came with a zebra plant, a book to hold our cards for future plants, cactus food and a pin! It’s a very cute introductory box, with cactus food being a great idea as it’s meant to help the cactus survive after a bit of travel through the post and can help other cactus’ flower. I really liked the idea of this book full of cards, as each cactus comes with a card all about them and how to take care of them. The pot for this month was nice, a good off-pink color with small designs in it. The zebra plant came well wrapped and in one piece!
Month Two, Blue Torch Cactus
The next prickly boy to appear was the Blue Torch, which had a bunch of plants poking out from a very pretty black and pink poke-a-dot pot. There weren’t many loose needles in this box either, which was impressive considering the amount of needles on the plant! This box was clearly bee themed, with some bee friendly seeds and a bee’s wax wrap inside the box. It also came with a lovely card – something I think they should keep doing in the box – which tells me about the little gifts I got and how to use them! This box was my favorite of the three, just because of that card and the contents.
Month Three, Silken Pincushion
This month, we received a Silken Pincushion that can flower in the spring, if you’ve got a bit of luck. It came with a speckled grey pot, which brought out the grey between it’s spikes!
The bonus item this month was Saffron Crocus, which need to be planted when they arrive. We planted ours in a small pot outside. I wish that there was a card, like the previous box, that told me how to plant them – they did put up an Instagram story on how to grow them – but I didn’t see that and ended up emailing. This box also felt a bit light, comparatively, I would have enjoyed some stickers or something small to round it out.
Over all, I’ve really enjoyed Barry’s Cactus Club and have had a good time with them! My only issue, which is a personal one, is that I feel like my cactus always needs water and have over-watered the first one to death. It was a learning experience though. We now have so many lovely plants, it’s been great to see it.
Oh wow, cacti through the post, that’s fabulous! Cacti and succulents are the only indoor plants I can keep alive and I’m very fond of them – I’ve not heard of Barry’s so I’ll have to head over for a nosey – great review, thank you for sharing this 🙂

I love how easy they are too!
This is the cutest subscription box idea ever! I absolutely love house plants and cactus’ are adorable. Thanks for sharing this!
I love small plants!
They look great. Such a good idea. I’m currently trying to grow a bonsai tree, but I can see cacti being my next challenge!
Bonsai’s are so interesting! Love the idea of trimming them and making them look perfect.
Don’t buy from this company. I bought a gift subscription for a fiend and wanted to wrap the first box. When she opened it there was no card or anything to explain about the subscription. Before I could go on the website to change the delivery address to hers they randomly sent out another just over a week later that I’ve not got to post to her so instead of a 3 month subscription it will end after less than 2 months. Customer service is useless. Avoid at all costs.
Oh weird, I didn’t have this experience at all!
