[Ad- gifted product] Bedtime stories are always a big part of our household. Dann and myself are on the lookout for new stories to add to our library, which has been building up and up over the months. We love finding new books that fit different seasons or have various characters that are recognizable – or are just unique to our collection. Since bedtime stories get read every single night before bed, it’s good to refresh your collection and add some books that are seasonally appropriate and fun to read! Let’s get into these books
The Christmas Snowflake
This book is a new addition to our collection. The Christmas Snowflake is a book that you can personalize by adding the names of your family members to the book – where they will appear in small details in the graphics and as apart of the snowflake itself. I absolutely love books that are like this, as they feel magical and unique to our family – a book that really belongs to everyone listening to the story being read. The Christmas Snowflake is a story about a little winter snowflake who is looking for a place to call their own. This snowflake travels all around the world, playing with loads of winter animals, before finding a home inside the household of the people who currently have the book. This snowflake is so beautiful and the story is very fun.
There’s an Elf in Your Book
The There’s an *creature name* on your Book series is one that is super popular in our household at the moment. So, when Robin heard there was an Elf version, she was pretty excited. These books, if you are not familiar, this series of books has children shouting out answers and making hand movements as you read, instructing them to interact with the book. This elf is currently testing you to see if you are on the naughty list, by having you sing and say jokes! It’s an interesting premise and a cute book – the interactive aspect really helps keep young ones engaged!
Stick Man
Stick Man is a classic wintertime story for those who are in England (I had previously never head of these stories before). It’s about a stick person – a stick man to be exact – who gets lost when going on an early morning jog. A bunch of different people and animals end up picking up Stick Man, not knowing he is not a regular stick, and bringing him farther and farther from his family. All Stick Man wants to do is get home in time for Christmas with his family, who he misses dearly, and who else but Santa is the one that ends up helping him! This story has a big, overarching feeling of family being the most important. Earlier this month, Dann actually wrote about Weald Country Park, which has a Stick Man themed area – perfect for visiting if your family loves this book!
We’re Going on an Elf Chase
We have started picking up a few books with flaps in it. We’re Going on an Elf Chase is one of those types of books. This story has a bunch of bunnies looking to find and count elves! The elves are hidden behind the different flaps in the book, though some hidden areas do not have elves in them. There is a lot of counting and numbers in this book, so it is great for those still learning how to count. We find that books with flaps are really fun to read together and play with!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a classic all over the world, with the fuzzy, green monster appearing in movies and adaptations. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a book about Christmas being more than just the gifts, more than just presents, more than what is spent on other people. The Grinch himself hates Christmas at first, but that hate is built on not understanding the holiday and being isolated and alone. There are many tongue twisters in this book – which can be more difficult for younger children to read, but it’s a classic that should be apart of any home library!
Winnie in Winter
Winnie the Witch has been a new character popping up in our collection. There are tons and tons of books with this wacky witch featured in it (as well as her lovely cat Wilbur) and Winnie in Winter is perfect for the wintertime. Winnie in Winter is about Winnie and Wilbur being sick of winter, so they cast a spell that then makes it so that their property is in the best part of summertime. Though they didn’t mean any chaos by this, all of the people and animals of the town find themselves also wanting to be in the sun – which causes a lot of problems for Winnie who now has a yard full of people! She then reverses the spell and enjoys wintertime inside her own house.
One Snowy Night
One Snowy Night is a short story about a man named Percy who is loved by all of the animals who live around his little house. On one cold night, some of the animals start to knock on his door, looking for a bit of warmth and safety from the snow. Over time, however, the animals end up really filling up his house and there is no real room for Percy. That issue, coupled with a strange noise in the floorboards, scare the other animals – but it all turns out okay and there is really nothing to be afraid of as everyone finds room in this small but cozy home.
The Night Before The Night Before Christmas
The Night Before The Night Before Christmas is a book all about Santa getting ready for the big day! Following the lead up to Christmas night, this book shows how the elves get ready, how the reindeer wake up and prepare and how Santa himself stresses over getting everything done before all of the presents need to be delivered to the children around the world. Everything Christmas is listed in this book from loads of toys to how shiny Santa’s sleigh is. The book has a pretty funny ending as well – which we didn’t really expect when reading it! It’s a new book to our collection but one that will probably be read every year on the Night Before the Night Before Christmas itself.
This post is a part of our Blogmas series, with each and every post being about Christmas or Winter.

The Elf Who Saved Christmas is so cute!
The Grinch is definitely a go-to in our house (and have no kids lol). There’s something about the holidays that lead me to embrace the children’s books and movies lol! It’s like it gives us a chance to be a kid all over again… There are a couple of books here that I haven’t read before, so I’ll have to check them out!
I still watch all of the cartoons and movies on my own!! x
Great post – I remember a couple of these from my own childhood so it’s nice to know kids are still reading them now x

The Grinch is a classic!
I think I remember seeing a TV version of the Stick Man, although I can’t remember a thing about it even though I watched some of it. I’ve also watched the film based on the Grinch. Not ready any of these as books though, but I’m sure they’d make for a good read with the kids
These are great for kids!
My daughter’s favourite book was definitely ‘How the Grinch stole Christmas’. I was literally forced to read it ever single day haha!
Oh wow, a classic all year long!
I find The Night Before the Before Christmas intriguing.
Me too, such an interesting book.
