A Day Out at BeWILDerwoods

BeWILDerwoods

While out at Waxham Sands, we really wanted to spend a day doing a big, outdoor family event. A while back, Robin had brought home a flyer from school about BeWILDerwoods. This place wasn’t near to us, so now that we were in the area, we decided to book up a day of adventure for all of our family. BeWILDerwoods is a massive, outdoor, forest-adventure place where you can explore around a bunch of different play parks and areas that have large slides, big rope walks, and mazes. Along with this, there is an over-arcing story that is told through puppet shows and book-statues around the park, making everything link together.

When we first arrived, we were really surprised by how big the place was. We went straight to the center and made our way to the first of two puppet shows for the day. We ended up only attending one puppet show, due to the shear amount of stuff you can do in BeWILDerwoods. This puppet show had a lot of audience interaction and was quite fun – all about an Boggle who had gone into the forest by the spooky lake, like we had done, to go on an adventure. There were lots of other characters that showed up in the story, and this was a great start to our adventure as when we got to exploring the place, there were so many references to the story itself. We got to go on the bridge that challenged the Boggle and get our face painted like the crocodile that befriended the main character. It is so well planed!

We spent a lot of our time at BeWILDerwoods exploring the massive treehouse play parks all around the area. One was focused on running around to find letters, that then spelled a word, answering a riddle about the crocodile. This could be handed in at the end of our stay for pins, so we were well up for the task. A lot of these treehouses were built like mazes, requiring a lot of running about and exploring before you are able to see all of it. This is so impressive, and everything is adult friendly allowing you to run about along with your children.

We also spent a lot of time on the zip lines, which Amelia and Robin both picked as their favorite park area of the whole place. There are more than one zip line location, each with two zip lines, so they both had a great time racing each other and kicking off the platform. The staff at these locations were so lovely and willing to let the girls go on again and again and again. Another major joy of BeWILDerwoods was the slides. There were so many different areas of slides – thick slides, slides that just dumped you down, slides that were needed to exit tree houses. If you have a child that loves slides, this is really a place for you. There is a specific slide-related tree house right by the crafting tent that’s particularly lovely.

The crafting tent has a rotation of crafts, with the creation of a Crocodile Visor being the one featured when we went. We had spent so much time running about that there wasn’t time to make a craft, so we opted to grab the to-go visors, giving us all of the different crafting materials so we could make them at home. This is such a lovely option as Amelia really likes to take her time in crafting, so this meant that she could take as long as she wanted.

We had a fantastic time at BeWILDerwoods and really enjoyed how themed the whole place was. To exit the place, you get to take a boat ride through the scarrrry lake, which is a big part of the story, seeing the crocodile, as well as the witches house and so much more from the story. All of the staff are always in character as story tellers and it’s just a fantastic way to use up some of your child’s energy.
