Bringing the Outdoors into your Home

*AD/Collaboration, but as always, all views are my own.

When it comes to being outside, in fresh air, full of plants and green life, it can really lift up your mood. Sadly, the outdoors isn’t always bright and full of life; grey days, rain clouds, and big winds can make the outdoors more of a chore to be in. If you are an outdoor lover and love nature, it’s a good idea to bring some of the outdoors into your home, making it so that no matter what the weather, you can enjoy the benefits of the outdoors! Today, I am going to share my top tips on bringing the outdoors in!

Plants, Plants, Plants

This may seem obvious, but bringing in a wide range of plants can be a great start when it comes to making your home feel like the outdoors. Plants come in so many shapes and sizes, from tall plants that can sit on your floor to smaller plants to tuck into nooks on shelves, having plants everywhere or even a plant area can bring so much joy and life to any home. Plants move towards the light, changing as they grow, which brings a lot of interest into your home as well, especially if you can keep your plants from dying! Though plastic plants aren’t ideal, putting a few in the mix with some real plants can help them blend in, if you aren’t particularly good at keeping them alive.

Natural Flooring

There are a few options when it comes to flooring; wood flooring, cork or even bamboo can make a room feel more like the outdoors. Seeing these materials in a home makes much more of an impact then fake grass or carpet – and it can also brighten up a room, which is always a plus when it comes to being like the outdoors where, ideally, its quite bright. If these floors contrast with the walling, they make even more of an impact as well.

Natural Lighting

Natural lighting, especially if you have a view of the outdoors, can make a huge difference. Having windows that fully open and doors that slide, allowing you to open them completely on warm days to bring in fresh air can make your home feel so much better. Curtains, though necessary, can be made of more flowing and light fabric, letting in some light and keeping the feel to be less stuffy and more natural. It’s a good idea to look out into the outdoors and let it into spaces that you’d like to feel more like outside.

Brilliant post, I think we could all do with a little outdoors indoors! I have a family of plants in my home including Dragon Tree, Peace Lilly, English Ivy, Lavender and Aloe Vera. I do, however, struggle to keep them alive!
