Brunch at The King’s Head | Review

The King's Head

[Ad- gifted experience] The King’s Head in Billericay, Essex have refurbished the interior and exterior, as well as extended their menu to include a very lovely brunch menu! The interior is stunning – beautifully presented tables, couches, a well-presented bar. All of the bar staff seemed really knowledgeable about the menu – and we were told after that they actually had a large menu tasting when it came to this brunch, so that they knew everything on this new menu. The look is pretty modern now, with a bright feel that you don’t often find inside pubs. The King’s Head felt modern and casual, and the dining experience was wonderful as well.

Drinks

I ordered a cappuccino, which came with a bowl full of sugar – as someone with a sweet tooth, I added quite a bit. The foam on top was plentiful and the coffee was good! It came with a tiny coconut macaroon, which was a super lovely touch as well. We both also got a glass of sparkling wine, made locally, which was offered by our server. This was Dann’s main drink. The sparkling wine was dry, as most sparkling wines are, and tasted pretty good. Both drinks were enjoyable – whether you want to start your day off with something coffee based or something alcohol-based. The King’s Head also do their own house made sodas, which come in a bunch of really neat sounding flavors like Green Apple – which we are totally going back to try in the future.

Veggie Breakfast

Dann ordered the veggie breakfast, which came with loads of bits and bobs! The beans, sour dough toast, tomatoes, hash browns and mushrooms were all very good, but those are always basics when it comes to a full English. The egg was really nicely cooked and peppered, with a runny yoke and all, but the actual star of the plate was something neither of us had ever heard of before; beetroot hash cake. The beetroot hash cake is one of the best beet-based things I have ever had – and I do eat a lot of beet. The texture was that of a soft on the inside, crispy on the outside hash brown. The taste was well season and just good – this hash cake could be served on it’s own with a bit of salad and be a crowd pleaser. It’s one of those things that you try and think about for the next few days as it feels so unique yet you want more. The beetroot hash cake really made the veggie breakfast shine and is well worth trying.

Pulled Beef Brisket Hash

The pulled beef brisket hash is what I ordered off of the menu – and I was made aware that the meat is cooked in alcohol, something they specify on the menu. The plate they handed me was huge – with a mountain of potatoes and beef brisket, topped with bits of micro greens and a perfectly cooked runny egg. This dish was amazing – the beef brisket was so flavorful – clearly having been cooked for a long time. The runny yolk provided a nice sauce for the pan-fried potatoes – however the potatoes could have been cooked longer for my liking – they weren’t very crispy on the outside and often were quite soft. This was my only note on the plate, as the beef tasted amazing and the egg was perfect. The portion, as mentioned, was quite large. I could not finish the entire plateful that early in the morning – it was so filling! Definitely well worth the price tag.

Overall, we found that the food was just really well done and very worth it’s price point. Everything was beautifully presented as well and came in a really good amount of time. The King’s Head is right across from a school, so the idea of a brunch is pretty great if you are dropping off your kids and want a little bite to eat. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area, which once the UK becomes a big warmer, is a nice draw for those wanting to soak up the morning rays. The King’s Head does have a large normal menu, which included some classics and a few interesting desserts and mains that are worth trying as well – we will probably be back soon to try some more of the menu.

The beef hash looks absolutely fantastic!! Even the veggie breakfast sounds great but I cannot have a breakfast like this without a pork sausage haha. Thanks for sharing x

This all looks lovely, the decor looks really cosy and inviting too! I’m usually not the biggest fan of beet based products but that hash sounds delicious, I’d never expect that to be the star of the show either x
