Pancake Day Charcuterie Board

Pancake Day

*AD – the board in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Pancake Day is a strange holiday in the United Kingdom, for it everyone seems to eat Pancakes for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This day is meant to be Shrove Tuesday, which is preceding Ash Wednesday, but no one I know seems to talk about the religious routes and instead shares great pictures of the pancakes they’ve made. We wanted to do something a little different, so we jumped on the Instagram trend of Pancake Boards or Pancake Charcuterie boards.

Using Tru Bamboo’s Large Cheese Board, we made a breakfast board of our own. Having a dedicated charcuterie board or cheese board for these types of things is always a must, as you shouldn’t use a board that you cut raw meat on or that has loads of cuts on them – instead opting for a clean and vibrant board that’s for these types of meals. The Tru Bamboo Cheese Board is long and big, which allows it to hold a lot of food and look great while doing it. There also isn’t a big bunch up of food in the middle, making everything easy to reach. If you are interested in the board for cheeses, there is also a small drawer that holds the various cheese knifes that you will want if you are using it as a cheese board. I’ll be talking about more of these benefits in a later post where I have used the board as a traditional charcuterie board.

Pancake Day

Onto the Pancake Day themed board! After mixing up our favourite, slightly vanilla pancake recipe, we got together our bits and bobs to add onto the board. You can put anything you’d like on your board, but keep in mind colours and tastes. The centre piece, of course, is the pancakes, which we spread across the board, sort of dividing it in half. You could do little piles of pancakes if you had more, providing everyone eating with a little plate to pull theirs off and eat it there. We put out some pancetta, as it’s less greasy than bacon, and sausage as our meats. When on a board, you should cut up bigger meats like sausages so that they can be easily eaten. For our fruits, we cut up a banana and placed bits around, as well as bundles of grapes, and scattered some blueberries. These blueberries were used to fill up gaps – small fruits are good for that, which makes sense when filling space. We also added a small bowl to hold golden syrup, as otherwise it would drip out everywhere – more dense sauces, like the strawberry jam and lemon yogurt we added to the board were dolloped on. And that’s everything we had on our board.

When it comes to making a pancake themed board, much like making a standard Charcuterie board, it’s about placing down items and taking a look at them. Placing down the bigger foods and bowls, then filling in the gaps with smaller foods like sliced fruit and berries fills up the board quickly. It only takes a few extra minutes of placing everything down, but stands as a great looking talking point that might just make your Pancake Day a little bit more special.
