£50 Toy Haul from PoundToy | Review

Pound Toy

*AD – the items in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Our household is always on the lookout for toys, especially toy kits and items that will keep the three kids entertained. With the half term coming up, PoundToy reaching out with their very affordable toys seemed like a really good fit. Pound Toy is an online retailer that sells loads and loads of children’s toys at extremely affordable prices. They have some name brands, but mainly loads of cheaper off-brands that work pretty well. A few of their toys are free ad-ons (one per order) and there are toys that come in at £0.01, which can be added to an order, but do have a limit depending on what it is.

With £50 to spend, we set off to filling up our cart. We ended up with a total of 20 items, mainly activity kits, for the children to enjoy. Here is the full list of everything we ordered: Grafix Weird Science Zombie Brain Slime Kit, Grafix Make Your Own Bouncy Balls Kit, Grafix Weird Science Make Your Own Rocket Launcher Experiment Kit, Kinetic Sand Dinosaur Kit, Kinetic Sand Glitter Unicorn Kit, Skeleton Excavation Kit, Hatching Dinosaur Egg – Grow Your Own Dinosaur, Make Your Own Unicorn Plush Toy, Kinetic Flow Rings, Grafix 6 Poster Paints, Disney Frozen 2 Bubbles, Make Your Own Super Slimy Slime Sachet, Foam Wild Animals Craft Kit, My Little Pony Nail Polish Twin Set, Weird Science Unicorn Poop Slime Kit, Glow in the dark Sand Art Kit, Grafix Weird Science 4 Set Activity Bundle, Make Your Own Unicorn Bath Bomb Kit, Grafix Weird Science Glow Slime Kit, and Peppa Pig Flash Cards.

Make Your Own Slime

The Grafix Make Your Own Slime kits came in a bunch of varieties, from glow in the dark to sparkly unicorn – and as slime is a hit, this was one of the first things we looked into. The slime itself was easy to make, with the children following a simple card’s worth of instructions. Each kit could make two slimes, but these slimes were a bit goopier than we expected – almost snot like (Amelia kept calling hers unicorns snot) but that wasn’t much of a problem, just something unexpected. There was plenty of dye and glitter in the kit, and the slime kept the kids happy for quite some time. They even each decorated their jar (there is one jar included in each box, so if you do make a second slime, you will need to store it in something else).

Stink Bomb Kit and Perfume Kit

Included in the Grafix Weird Science 4 Set Activity Bundle, there was a stink bomb kit and a perfume kit. The stink bomb kit was probably the most disappointing of the kits, but that might be because it was really quite stinky! Kai found it pretty amusing to be fair. The first item in the kit was a stink bomb, which is a tin-foil looking envelope that you need to hit hard, then place somewhere you want to stink up. The envelope starts to inflate until it explodes, giving off a really gross smell to everything around it. The other activity in the slime kit involves putting egg and milk in a little test tube, letting it rot for three days, and then smelling it. They really do stink, that’s for sure! The perfume kit, on the other hand, gave Amelia the chance to make her own scented perfume and colour them, before putting them in one of two bottles. Complete with a syringe, this is a simple activities that smells quite nice, and the perfume has been used since! It’s not too over powering and much better as a kit.

Make Your Own Bouncy Balls Kit

Pound Toy

Robin has been very into bouncy balls lately, and was very excited to make her own bouncy balls using this kit. Jupiter had a similar one as a kid and was doubious as to how long these bouncy balls would work. Complete with three different colours to make three different balls (or a few multi-coloured balls), a small ball mould and some instructions, most of this kit is actually waiting. Once you have poured in the different colours, the shape must sit in water for 10 minutes, then come out and dry for 10 minutes before you peel off the case. This was pretty simple and after waiting, they did make balls that could bounce quite high! After a few days, however, they had lost a bit of their bounce, but Robin was still enjoying them anyway.

Frozen 2 Bubbles & Kinetic Flow Rings

A couple of surprise stand outs where the Frozen 2 Bubbles, which Robin really had a fun time with. As every single child seems to be interested in Frozen 2, you can’t go wrong with themed bubbles. They were under a quid, so a great small gift for a child! The top had a little ball maze thing which was cute too. The Kinetic Flow Ring is something Jupiter put in the basket at random, remembering the ‘arm slinky’ from her childhood. This slinky is one that you sort of turn into a bracelet before moving it up and down your arm. The children passed it from one of their arms to the next, watching it move up and down. It’s a simple toy that really is fun to fiddle with and play around with – even for adults.

Despite being slightly off in branding on some of the items, everything felt like a good value for the amount of money that it cost. There were a few name brand items that were the same – they did what they were meant to do and are fun to play with. PoundToy also has plenty of good quality art supplies, like the Grafix 6 Poster Paints, which are good for filling up an art box quickly and efficiently. The idea of the free items (we got Peppa Pig Flash Cards) and £0.01 items (we got a small slime sachet and Foam Wild Animals Craft Kit) are interesting, as it is adding more deals into your basket! PoundToy has an interesting catalogue, and if you are looking to save some money or purchase on a budget, it’s a good store to take a look at.
