Everything you need to know about a Cat Window Perch

Cat Window Perch

Our home has quite a few windows. The cats, of course, love looking out the windows and hissing or tsk tsk tsk at the birds that they see outside. As this is something they really loved, we decided to get one of those cat window perches or hammocks that stick to the window. At first, I was pretty unsure on if they would really stick or support our big cats, but we ended up being so happy with one of them, that we had to purchase another.

Cat Window Perch

The Cat Window Perch is a really lovely thing for cats. Cats love sitting in sunshine – sitting just inside a window. Giving them a specific space, that is all theirs, in the sun can be really lovely for them! The stimulation that cats get from seeing the birds outside and watching the world, especially as indoor cats, is really great. If you get your cats a window perch, they will spend a lot of their day in that spot. In our house, these perches are more loved then any cat tree or cat bed we have ever had.

Putting together the model we had was quite straight forward. There were pipes that needed to be plugged into joiners, which created the base. The long length of the pipes went through the base fabric, to create the bed area. Large suction cups were placed at the bottom position, with more industrial feeling, huge suction cups on ropes being for the top. These are again, really easy to place on and everything made sense. The rest of the fabric base was pulled over, then Velcro made it stick. This base is quite tight, but good.

You may be wondering how your cat window perch sticks to the window and this was something I was not very confident would work. First, we made sure our windows were completely clean and dry, by washing them with window cleaner and then letting them dry fully after wiping them down. The instructions stated you needed to take the suction cups and run hot water over them – as hot as your hands can handle, really, wipe them off, and then push them onto a cold window. Once they are pushed onto the window, the larger, industrial looking suction cups can be screwed tighter using a screw mechanic on the back. We screwed these as tight as we could and then let the entire thing sit on our window for an hour, before placing the cats onto them or letting them go on.

The top suction cups have never actually fallen, since putting them on, which is really impressive. When both of the cats walk on the same perch – not resting, but actively walking around, sometimes they knock the left hand bottom suction cup off, but they are learning to not walk around on the platform, and it’s pretty easy to stick it back up as its just the bottom suction cup.

Cat Window Perch

The cat window perch we got was so loved by both cats, that we ended up getting a second one, and there is a good chance we might get a few more for other places in our house. It saves a lot of room, as it’s not a massive cat tree taking up floor space, so it can fit into most windows! I find the placement to be very good in our home, and despite my doubts on cat perches, my mind has been changed.

My granddaughter has perch’s around her house. Her cat just loves them. I think they’re sweet (the cats and the perches). 😉

This is such a cool idea, I may have to get some for our cats when they get a bit bigger and can jump up to our higher windows x

At first, I did not think Pancake would be able to jump up to these (he is not graceful!) but he ended up jumping up fine after a few tries!
