Lots of Tapas at Novo Lounge

Dann and I actually went to Novo Lounge when it first launched, taking our children with us. We ended up having a bit of a chaotic time, particularly due to some picky eaters who weren’t really sure what they were ordering before it arrived. We’ve been back a few times to grab drinks during their happy hour, but decided to try them out again for dinner, with a friend of ours, after an evening of playing Pokemon Go. Novo Lounge has a lot of community activities going on; drag bingo, board game nights, and on this particular night there was salsa practice happening! It’s great to see a venue become such a staple in the community and fun that they run so many events.

Making Flavored Yogurt with Easiyo

[Ad- gifted products] When it comes to making our own food, we have had some experience creating yogurt previously, however it relied on a type of milk that I found difficult to obtain and kind of expensive. Easiyo is a different way to create yogurt; it’s a sort of device that you can easily add yogurt mixes into it, make sure they are up to temperature, then wait a few hours and you suddenly have yoghurt.

Midweek Meal Inspo; Spooky Burgers, Calzones, Spooky Meatballs and more

We have been having more spooky or Halloween inspired food, as it’s such a fun time of the year. Along with these more labor intensive food, I’ve been making some Italian food that I find quick and easy. This week’s meals are a mix of both, so some classics everyone will love and some beautiful decorated spooky food that really will impress anyone who sees them.

Spooky Meatballs

I was inspired to be cute and spooky, so I tried making some spooky meatballs, two ways. Amelia doesn’t like cheese, so I made her some homemade meatballs and then wrapped them with puff pastry to create a mummy. I also took a bunch of meatballs, cooked them, and then put them on a baking tray. I then added a slice of cheese to the top of them. I feel that it might have come out better with some of those burger cheese slices, instead of real cheddar, but it did melt over the meatballs and became a sort of ghost! We served this over pasta with tomato sauce.

Making Spooky Focaccia with Wright’s Baking

[Ad- gifted product] We’ve had focaccia from the Wright’s Baking line previously, as it’s literally Amelia’s favorite thing to bake and decorate. So when she suggested we use the Wright’s Baking Rosemary and Garlic Focaccia Bread Mix to create a giant loaf of spooky Focaccia. Focaccia is often a time-consuming and challenging bread to make, but with this mix it’s very teen friendly and Amelia can make the entire mix on her own.

The focaccia mix is one where you just add water and oil, so I took everything out of the kitchen, popped them on the counter, and left Amelia to it. She measured and made up the bread – but then there is a bit of waiting. Letting the bread proof, moving it to a pan, letting it proof, dimpling it, letting it proof, and then adding the toppings before – you guessed it – letter in proof again. This is needed so the bread is airy and like a focaccia is.
