American Classics at Pinecrest Diner

Going to the Pinecrest Diner while in San Francisco for work, is something that basically every person in the area, going to GDC, does. The diner is open 24 hours, making it perfect for the first day you wake up, jet lagged, wanting both breakfast and lunch items all at once. It reminds me of everything that I love about America. Customising meals, unlimited refills on drinks, and a very simplistic looking place that has everything you want in it. Dann and I went right after we woke up, around 7:30 am local time (2:30 pm in England), so we were both rather hungry.

How Simplifying Your Home Mirrors Leveling Up in Games

Remember that feeling when you first start a video game? Your inventory is clean, your quests are minimal, and everything feels manageable. Fast forward a few hours of gameplay, and suddenly you’re drowning in random items, side quests, and decision fatigue. This same principle applies to our homes. We start with clean spaces full of potential, only to find ourselves overwhelmed with stuff years later.

I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly while working with homeowners. Even a father and son investor team I recently met mentioned how they apply gaming principles to their property renovations – clearing out the unnecessary to highlight value, just like streamlining a character build to optimize performance. This approach isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating functional spaces that serve your needs better.
